Snow/Ice + Traction Control = Need New Rear Brakes

Well, after driving home at 25 MPH the other day due to the ice storm in our area it looks like I now need new rear brakes. Today I drove my car for the first time since the ice storm and it was really nice out so I rolled the windows down and headed down a twisty road, thats when I noticed the squealing noise from my right rear, so I turned the stereo up and headed back home. I jacked the car up and took of the wheel and found the inside brake pad was wore down the the "sqeaker". Since my car only has 30K miles and the front pads look good I figure the TC has somthing to do with it since I quite often can smell the brakes when I get out of the car after driving when the roads are bad.

I am in the market for front and rear pads if anybody knows a place to get a good deal on Hawk Ceramic pads. The rotors have some small groves, but hopfully I can get them turned, if not it looks like I need some drilled/sloted rotors.

Anyone else have this kind of problem?

Well, I recived my new rotors on Monday so I finally got to put my car back together again. The old rotors were unable to be turned so I ordered drilled/sloted rotors, and Hawk ceramic pads all the way around. With the snow and bad weather I havent been able to really try them out, but they look good, they will look even better with my summer wheels. From now on I am leaving the TC off when I am in town and it is slick, on the highway and country roads I will probliby leave it on. It dosn't look like I will be buying too many more mods for my car in the near future since the wife has begun calling it "The Money Pit"

The traction control cuts the throttle before it resorts to applying the brakes.

30K miles on a set of pads and your complaining? Pads are a consumable and a small cost like <$100, but too bad you waited until they trashed the rotors as well so you have to replace both. Funny you think the TC is a fault, the TC function has never been found to cause unusual pad wear. Your crazy to turn it off in normal driving, esp. when it's slippery, that's just when you need it most.
