Getting alignments gets expensive after a while. I've seen adverts for alignment tools. It would seem that it would save a lot of money over time doing my own alignment. Does anybody have experience at doing their own alignment? Is it more of a pain than it's worth?

You would pay for about 15 alignments for tools that would only give you mediocre results compared to a good alignment machine.

I found a shop that is interested in performance driving and got them to sponsor/help me.

I plug them all the time locally...but not on here

i do all my own alignments..but then again i work for a dealership that has an alignment machine i wouldn't recomend doing it yourself. good chance you might mess something up..or you'll just pay a lot for mediocre results.

just curious how much do ou pay for alignments? i've heard different techs say you should get an alignment ever 6 months to a year...i lean more towards the year or a lil longer depending on where you drive (ex: construction zone..or a well paved road with no pot holes)....so it shouldn't be costing you too much.

 

a set of toe plates is a good investment just to keep an eye on things for those who compete, if you make equal adjustments you can usually keep everything centered well, but at least one trip a year to the rack is a good idea just for a check, I have the ART laser toe plates but there are cheaper tape measure versions, on the street though twice or once a year to the rack is all you relly need
