Racing Brake Rotors

I just had installed my 2 piece front rotors + Hawk HPS pads. Since it was track day, I had a chance to test the before/after. The Hawk pads are very very good... I was able to brake much later than with the stock pads.

The rotors are incredibly well made and much lighter than the stock ones. Visually they do not look that impressive but I have always favored function over form...

I am getting their aluminum calipers too, they should get here pretty soon...

fyi, RacingBrake has two new pad compounds coming out, but they will be shaped for their calipers only

both are suitable for track duty; one is rated up to 1200 degF and the other to 1400 degF, but also still work for low temp street use so need to swap them out with track pads. The lower temp one has slightly less dust and is quieter, pick your poison. They recomend using the Hawk HT10 in the rear to match them. They are using this setup on both the track and street with great results. They ran the high temp pad at a 24 hr track enduro and had 50% less wear than the Hawk DTC60 track pad with equal performance, they did the whole event on one set of pads and there was still more left in them.

Thx TeamRX8, since I am getting their calipers, I will be able to test their pads too... I was very happy with the HPSs at the track and I have no complains on the road... they squak every now and then but that is fine with me...

Can you get brake pads from Porterfield?

If not they can make them and they are local.

Nope, I did not know about that event. What time? I will swing by to check it out. I really don't do any auto-xs anymore, I rather save the tires for the track...

I am running MS' coilover suspension...

are you using all stock size rotors? i have a full set of their open slot 2 piece rotors currently. i want to get the front calipers some time down the road but they only sell them with new rotors. i was planning to just throw on the calipers and sell the brand new rotors, are the rotors that come in their stock size alum caliper kit the same as the rotors they sell separately?

no, if you purchased the rotors they will sell you the caliper kit as an upgrade to them, you just need to prove you bought the rotors, they won't sell the calipers individually except as a proven replacement or upgrade

they have a 1 pc and 2 pc rear rotor kit, a rear caliper kit is in development but it will be for racing use only since the e-brake function won't be maintained

Any idea if they'll fit 17's - I still have to put on the snow wheels here!

So with such a sharp looking front end caliper, do I understand correctly that they don't have a matching rear set? What do you do instead?

the same thing you do with all the other RX-8 brake kits, use the OE rear caliper with it's integrated handbrake mechanism

Mine didn't...had to swap back the stock calipers and rotors for winter.

Good idea anyway...can wear and corrode out the stock ones instead
