The rules I was running under only allowed the minimal modification required to the backer shield, not to remove it completely. In your case I'd just take them off.

 

I take that back, I got that clunk noise on my drive in this morning. Each during light braking before a complete stop.

 

Did you by chance take off your hub and spindle with installation?

heres one issue I see I have previously discussed this with RA and he too is checking the rears for clearance issues...

These are the rears, the calipers are colliding with the bottom of the bolts that fasten the seats to the hats,,,

 

Don't the bolts go on the other way? The heads should be outside and those on the inside?

I might be wrong though..mine went on almost 3 years ago? and I'm 1000 miles from my car

 

The rotors are on the right way, and came preassembled, if you think about it even if you switched sides the bolts would be still facing the same way...

 

^ My rear rotors are the same. I do notice some throbbing like feel when braking. I assumed that was open slots but maybe it the calipers hitting the rear bolts???

 

I just thought they may have assembled them the wrong way.....but after more thought they were that way.

I believe I had the first set of rear RB rotors, zero issue

 

Question - Will the optional spare tire fit over the RB kit? Front or rear?

I just got a 2009 RX8 GT that I want to use for AX and track days.
I was looking at getting the Enkei FLC-01 rims to put my stock Dunlop 2050 tires on and then put some Hankook or Falken's on the stock rims for racing in the SCCA BS class.

Throughout this thread people keep mentioning a kit for the Enkei rims. Do all the Enkei rims have a funky offset that will hit the calipers but the stock rims will clear?!?!

Sorry for my ignorance but don't want to drop a few grand on rims and tires swaps that will hit a brake upgrade. Thanks for any input.

 

This statement is backwards, the Enkie RPF01 will clear and the oe rims will not clear, this is however for the larger 13" rotor setup, there are shallow offsets (12.6") the will fit the oe wheel Racing Brakes website has a wealth of knowledge as well as thier own forum if you need further assistance.

Started reading the SCCA rule book and found out that for the BS class you can only change the "brake linings"/pads.

I guess wanting to master this class first before moving up has saved me some money already! hahah

Any personal opinions on tires: Falken Azenis RT615's vs. Hankook Ventus RS2

 

A little late, but I wonder if it has to do with pad wear. Obviously as the pad wears the caliper gets closer to the rotor and the rotors might not have enough clearance for pads that have worn down a lot.

^^^Brand new pads and rear caliper piston retracted fully to accomodate new pads...

Back to the front caliper issue - RA has notice that when he observes his car at a rest or parked that the pad seems to be floating or slightly suck open from the rotor, this gets back to my assumption that the clunking was a result of a floating pad as well. The clunk being a result of the pistons slowly nudging the pad up onto the surface of the rotor and being lightly clamped unevenly against the rotor. Again this has only occured under very light braking such as coming to a stop light from a 10-30 mph speed, most times even slower...

 

Brice @ Fluid sent me the OEM offset rotor hats. This should take care of the ball joint rubbing the shield at aggressive turn-in. And while I'm under there, I'll try to snap some pics of the floating pads and investigate any potential cause of the clunking sound. Have you gotten anywhere with Mike @ RB?

 

Did some searching, resurrecting this thread since Polak seems to have been in the same situation I am in. Running 18x8 Enkei RFP1 wheels on an 03 build 04 MT with about 100K on the clock. Factory on the chassis all the way around, no mods.

Looks like I am having same fitment issues Polak noted. Trimming a little off the dust shields to handle fitment issue there is not a concern for me. Interference fit to the lower ball joint is a concern.

Called Racing Brake tech line about it and advice given was to shave a few mm's off the lower joint. While there is enough meat there to probably be able to pull this off without creating other issues, I am interested to learn what other options folks here might be able to suggest as far as remedies.

Not sure going down the same path Polak did and investigating a switch from the Enkei specific offset in this kit to OE offset front rotors (and hope that this works OK for my 18x8's as it seems to have for Polak with his slightly wider Enkei's) will play.

How much caliper clearance do you have between the spokes and the BBK caliper at the closest point?

 

Don't know - haven't gotten past the rotor assembly to see clearances on the wheels.
