I've got the 19" x 8.5" +45 offset Enkei RPF1s, and the clearance is GIANT-SIZED... in fact at least 1/2 inch more clearance than the OE wheel.

Team, got a photo which illustrates the clearance of the RB calipers? I'm curious now...

 

There was never an issue with caliper clearance, i just played it safe and went with the enkei offset option from RB, that created a problem with rubbing on the balljoint and i had to switch out for the OE offset kit which still works just fine with rp03s in 18x9.5 +38s.

 

I've heard initial reports about the Racing Brake kit resulting in a softer pedal than stock. For anyone that has the kit, is this true?

 

at first my stoptech bbk had a softer pedal feel than stock but as i drove the car more it stiffened up nicely and is slightly stiffer than stock now.

so the kit only comes with 2 rotors and 2 calipers, meaning i have to buy 2 kits?

 

Kit is for the front only. Racing Brake doesn't make a caliper/rotor kit for the rear. They only make the rotors for the rear. So you only need to buy 1, unless you feel like buying 2 and giving me one!

 

I actually have a drawing from them for making rear adaptor mounts to use their 2-pot rear calipers on an RX-8, but there's no e-brake function and having the adaptors machined would be quite expensive due to their complexity

they decided that it wasn't feasible to pursue the idea, I came to the same conclusion too after reviewing the drawing ...

this thread kind of bugs me though, it was a bit lame to not determine why his original Enkei kit rotors rubbed on the ball joints. Mine had plenty of clearance ... it seems like he'd rather blame RB than find the true cause of the problem, a bit injust IMO

 

Polak did guess that it could be due to wheel bearing wear. That's A LOT of bearing wear though so it doesn't sound that likely.

but what about a kit for th back? and what about a rear kit that comes with red calipers?

 

Just curious where the weight saving figures are coming from in this thread. I calculate up to 9.85 pound savings per corner in the front (not 13) and 3 pounds per corner in the rear (not 4.5). What am I missing? Thx

 

RB has different thickness rotors...the 24 mm ones fit with the Enkei Calipers..but the 28mm upgraded ones don't. That might be what happened??

 

Hey I never saw this post, comon now i'm not blaming anyone; I mean lets look at the possibilities:

I guessed wheel bearing wear; when I have the car jacked up and rotate the front wheel in the air there is a point where the rotor catches the brake pad with greater friction.

That's been the case with the OEM set up and the Racing Brake set up out of the box with no mileage; so somethings off I'm guessing with the wheel bearings.

You see from the picture at the beginning of the thread how much clearance i had between the ball-joint and the backside of the rotor; I'm listening if you have ideas....

Edit I still have the original rotors, RB sent me rotor hats to swap out not actual rotors, so I can measure the thickness of the rotors if that's what you mean dan.

Stock calipers and rotors are heavy...the RB upgrade has aluminum calipers and rotor hats...making them much lighter.

The rears are the 2 pc rotors as well...with aluminum hats...so therefore the weight savings

 

I wasn't being very scientific there; hence the "About" and "or so". I didn't weigh them myself, to the best of my recollection those figures came from an IM conversation log between myself and shinronin, or maybe even teamrx8. I don't have the logs anymore because I converted over to Mac OSX in my home, so I can't really be more discriptive than that.

EDIT: If you mean where in general those numbers come from, its the difference in weight between"
FRONT:
1. the 2piece rotor and the stock rotor.
2. the stock caliper and the RB caliper
3. the stock mounting bracket and the RB mounting bracket
4. the stock pads and the HPS pads
5. the stock brake lines and the Goodridge lines.
REAR:
1. the 2piece rotor and the stock rotor.
2. the stock brake lines and the goodridge lines.
3. the oem pads and the HPS pads

 

^ Was actually trying to get the specifics... Re-lloked at all versions and it appears that the lighest rotars are 14 pounds. Used them and came up with 11.5 pound savings, relatively close to your 13 pounds.

Here are the numbers that I have seen published from Racing Brake

OEM Rotars: 18 pounds
RB Rotars: 14 pounds
Savings: 4 pounds

OEM Rotars: 12.5 pounds
RB Calipers: 5 pounds
Savings: 7.5 pounds

 

Scott, I should have my set in by Saturday. Possible meet next week to check them out. But 9 LBS of weight per corner is a significant reduction! that along with some light weight wheels and you would be laughing.

For the price the RB stuff came very highly reccomended. I really wanted a set of the Endless Mini 6 pots. But too much $$.

It is strange I was having the same rubbing issue Polak was describing on the ball joint. It only rubs when I turn the wheels at a 45 degree angle....

I Mean it literally is Just mm of Clearance.

Called and talked it over with them they are going to be sending me the standard offset rotor hats so that I can change it out.

They were thinking it might have something to do with my coilover suspension setup....

Team did you do anything special for installation?
