Thumbs up R-1 Concepts Inc. Performance Brake Rotors

Hey everyone!!!
I just picked up my pairs of front and back drilled and diamond slotted rotors! The Vents or whatever you call them (whats between the discs) are really well made, better than stock, for better cooling, the vents run the same way the slots run, at that exact angle, so it scoops more air easily to the center!...If you need a pair, or are interested in a pair, look at my sig or call R1 Concepts and ask to speak with Martin, Let him know that you are with the RX8Club.com and are interested in their brake rotors, let him know Ricky aka ZUMNRX8 sent you. So far I have these pics before the install! Also!, look out for a EPIC DIY brake rotor swap & G2 Caliper paint 980degree resistant! Guess which Rotors are the fronts (things are huge!)?

I believe Centric provides rotors to R1 and they drill and slot them. Centric may provide rotors to StopTech and other companies as well.

I think you might be right, because he had mentioned to me that they work closely with StopTech, *hint the diamond slots* R1 came up with em.

They do sell on ebay as well as their website. $350! no no no, When you're a part of the RX8club, you get special pricing.... Call them (whoever is interested),

I got a good/special deal simply because he knew that I'd spread the word on the forum when I had spoke to him at the D1GP in Anaheim. If there was a Group Buy then everyone in the group buy can possibly get the rotors for the crazy price I got them for. They have some other Design rotors with the R1 Logo as the slotting, I seen them at the shop, they are super nice. They have super nice Gold ones like "BREMBOS" but those are special order. They have more than what is available at their website. You can Even get the Mazda Sign as the slotting on the rotor. They retail for $350-400 for all 4, but if you call him and let him know you part of the RX8 club, then you can get special pricing.

Although they do look very nice, I would rather go with RB myself if I were to get slotted rotors, they do much much more R&D.

I heard a lot of people go with RacingBreak ^ and those are the people who do track or autoX like you. These are less expensive and Im sure perform just as well, for those who want some for Daily Driving, these are defenitely the real deal and at a good price (Less than the retail for the RX8Club)! Or did you mean Racing beat?

no he meant racing brake... I'd be hesitant to buy these as I've heard drilled rotors crack more easily, and with a somewhat no-name brand, gets kind of iffy

^True, I have read about the R1 Concepts rotors breaking sometimes, but also know some people who have had them for 2+ years, such as Patrick, and he is very satisified with them. So they are a good rotor for someone who does not track their 8, and it does look very nice indeed. But if you are a track addict, I would just stick with OEM rotors, or possibly a Racing Brake two piece rotor.

Nice looking....hope the quality is really there at that price, worth a shot I suppose. BTW on disk brake rotors, air vents from the center of the disk out, not the other way around, for example, that's why brake cooling ducts put air at the spindle area.

Yeah interesting topic of conversation especially one I was having last night with another that is in the industry. Sure all these are made at the same facilities but no QC or R&D goes into the Rotors. Another Famous Ebay brand that did this same thing was Ksport, huge on ebay cheap prices but the quality was lacking launched a national brand and there have been some horror stories on their coilovers having to be rebuilt.

Not to say that these are bad or horrible but there is a reason the price is so low.

I would be curious to see the weight of these rotors.

Gotcha, I just spelled it wrong...Ive also heard that about drilled rotors, however if thats what makes you hesitant, you can get them in a slotted version only, or OEM style...its available on their site, but its truely better to call them up so you can have them made to ur specs. A lot of people told me to just get them in a slotted version, but having 20" rims you can tell Im more of a visual person, and I also dont drive that hard, so I went with the Cross-Drilled and Slotted. They also have gold rotors similar to BREMBOS, but you have to call. There is more options available for a type of rotor at their shop. Online its only E-Line, or Performance, like mine.

I Strongly Agree, they do carry an OEM style rotor and just slotted version too. They are so F'in Sexy and I still havent put them on...cant wait. I love the fact that our rotors are huge! Maybe the cracking is due to the type of Pads Used?

Im Glad they have not gave you problems! What pads are you running with the rotors? Martin from R1 suggested Ceramics, and dude up front told me any will do, but to use new ones and not the ones I currently have on. They are going to ship me some ceramics for $5 and again a discounted price! Front and Back only about $75 from what he told me. One of the guys brothers that works at R1 also has an RX8 and runs Hawks with these rotors.

Also do you see any very small dimples on the rotors?

These are very important to check the consistency of the hardness of the rotors.

I am curious to know.

Care to clarify your position? No QC and R&D by who? Centric? Power Slot? StopTech? R1? Being a vendor who sells parts from competing companies you should be specific and detailed with such claims.

This is the norm of this industry of what it has become. I should digress and not say specifically this company or any of the ones you stated. It was a hypothetical situation of what actually occurs my statements were out of curiosity and previous experience with inexpensive brands and their cost of parts and why they are so.

I can name a dozen companies that buy from the same factory (overseas mind you) Even though they are a US based manufacturer, I have heard repeatedly from the people that work and have worked with these companies that this is what occurs.

QC & R&D are typically where the costs incurred determine value of said product, that is a safe assumption of what I have experienced.

Now mind you that there is also a significant margin in these lesser expensive brands. Which actually blows my mind.

I have reverse engineered many companies to see where they buy from, who makes their parts and circumvent the hierarchy of the BS dealer structures in place today. Out of curiosity mind you.

Two Perfect Examples:

I have found an authentic "HKS" wastegate for $27 do I buy them, absolutely not.

I have also seen a complete set of Muteki Lug Nuts for $7, are they the same..close, but look near the same.

I don't dabble in this river as the water is tainted with bad things....

I could go more in depth with many more, but this topic is already derailed enough.

If you ever catch me in person or on a group chat on AIM I would be happy to elaborate more my findings. If you want my AIM handle pm me, I don't go on the one in my profile much.

I have Hawk HPS on all 4. I also only have the slotted rotors.
