The stock MT RX-8 comes with 225/45/18 = 18X8in So 40 or 35 is good. Remember the smaller the number gets to 0 the large the wheel lip will be. Now you dont want to go to small. You car will look like a truck.

Lots of guys on here have them old Hiros.
I would not go any larger than 9.5 in the back. You can snap the rear if your wheels are to larg and your drag racing. If you do 9.5 you'll have to roll your fenders of your tires are not going to last long. Even if you get a off set in the back like 40 or 35 get a smaller tire so you dont rub till you have time to roll your fenders.

The retailer prob said they will fit if you told him your car is not lowered. If you plan on lowering your car and he would have told you they wont fit. They will not sugest you roll your fenders or shave them. They would just sell you a tire that you can put on as soon as you get them via ups fedex ect.

As for the price, Check out discounttiredirect.com or call them. Its a lot cheper than going into there stores.

if u have 19x8.5 front and 19x10.5 rear, the offsets cant be the same. the rear wheels will literally stick out. u need way higher offsets to bring the rear wheel in. i have 18x8.5 hiros with 35 on all four corners and its flush with the fenders. that 10.5 incher on the same offset will stick out.

Here are his options
19 x 8.5(Front) +19x9.5
245/35/19(Front) + 275/30/19(Rear)
OR
19 x 8.5(Front) +19x10.5
245/35/19(Front) + 275/30/19(Rear)
I would go with 19X9.5 if your looking for that flush look
