Painting the springs
Painting the springs
Are there any way to paint the springs... I´m not looking in to painting the stock ones, but the Stein Tech would lower my 8 to where I want it. Problem is the springs are green, and my 8 is red. Any spraypain or something I could paint my Tein springs with to cover the green color. As i understand the springs are coated in some sort of rubber so it has to be some paint that can stand the high pressure it will put on them... Any ideas, anyone who has tried this before?
I don´t want the paint to come off,,, it would look awefuL!

I don't know if you've seen an RX-8 lowered, but you CAN'T see the springs at ALL. Unless you have people crawling under your car at shows (literally crawling under your car that will have to be jacked up off the ground), don't worry about it.
Otherwise, if they are coated in something, take a look at a product called plasti-dip. Might work. It's pretty damn flexible in my experience (I've used it for several art projects, including one on where I dipped some string, which hasn't cracked yet). You can get it at MOST hardware stores in Red, black, blue, and some other colors. Let me know how it goes if you try it out.

Yea, I noticed the springs are hard to see even when the car is not lowered... However, I´m a perfectionist and want it perfect.
I´ll try out the plasti-dip (if I can get it) and cross my fingers for the result. I´ll let you know!
Thanx

I thought it was just some kind of paint?
Try using some sandpaper to sand a small section back and see how you go.
If it's just paint, then you can simply sand the rest of it and put on a new coat.
Just my 0.02c.
I havn´t recieved the springs yet, but I quote the producttext from one of the sites selling them.
" High-grade material adapted to improve guaranteed satisfaction. Rubber spring protector sheet to prevent noise (most applications)."
To me it looks like there´s definately some coating going on... :D

bloody hell.... you wont be able to see the springs when it is lowered... unless the car is jacked up. why dont you get them to powercoat your springs before they sent out.
but if you must...... use some sand paper, say 500 grit and rub all you want, and you get can whatever colour spray can you want and paint over it. since you are a perfectionist, maybe you should clear coat your springs to bring up the shine
and give it a wax before fitting

Man, you really put a smile on my face today! :D (12-hours working day at saturday and sunday is not something you dream about.)
Thanx for the tips though, I´ll look in to the clearcoating and wax -issues before posting any pics of the result...
