OEM Break Pads SUCK!

1 track day and they took 1/16" off my rotors probably more. No scoring or warping but still, thats a lot of rotor wear.

Anyways, whats your recommendation for a good all around pad and where should I get it? I will probably need new rotors too, but I think I can get brembo blanks for a pretty good deal from the shop here. I will try to get pictures later today of the carnage!

ahh.. Obewan, it is a very common problem for newbies on the track to over use their brakes.

so - you have before and after thickness ?
From memory the std thickness is 24mm and min spec. is 22mm ....
Are you below 22mm ?

Uhhh..., previous owner of my car raced the **** out of the RX-8, and he's no slouch around a track. When I replaced the pads, they were still OEMs, and had quite a bit of padding left.

1 inch = 25.4 mm

25.4 mm / 16 = 1.5875 mm

Stock rotors are supposedly 24mm (I read a post a while ago saying someone measured a stock rotor at 23mm)

1.5875 mm eaten in one session means your rotors have at MOST 40% life left after one track day if not 0%.

Apparently this particular aspect of illiteracy started early in 2007.

lol, yeah I know I overuse my brakes as well as fail 7th grade English. Yes the rotors need to be replaced, the pads look good strangely. Part of the problem was the ambient temperature was 103 that day. Asphalt temp was around 160. I think the combination of elements (heat, heavy wheels, heavy break foot) are what did them in. I had never tracked the rx-8 and wasn't expecting it to stop from 120mph quite as fast as it did. My first session is where all the damage probably occurred. After I found out that you don't have to mash on the brakes to get this car to stop it was a lot easier.

you're in real trouble then because any other hipo brake pad will wear the rotors far worse than the original Mazda pads ...
