Negative Camber Upper A Arm

Wondering if anyone knows of anything like the "NEGATIVE CAMBER UPPER A ARMS" shown here http://www.cusco.co.jp/english/e_pillow.html but for the RX8. I am struggling to get -1.5 from my front setup.

I have a guy locally that is saying he is happy to fab one from a spare set of arms, but would obviously prefer to not be guinea pig.

I really want some adjustable arms like that. I don't want to be a guinea pig either.

well turns out that a new set of OEM arms costs around $700 AUD. not much cheaper buying them from the US as the shipping is as much as the arms. Then you have $4-500 AUD to do the work. I think the $1000 would be better spent on a better set of Coilovers that give you this range naturally.

If you are seeking more camber, the best way to get that is to lower the car with Springs or Coilovers.

Of course, you can only go so low and will reach a max camber for that ride height, but I have heard of many on this forum getting up to -2.5 F/R with the car lowered if that is what you are seeking.

Plus you get the benefit of upgraded shocks/springs instead of spending money on replacement upper A-arm.

Yeah unfortunately, I have a set of coilovers but my car is as low as it can go without a) being illegal here and b) taking out my front end on every curb. and with the I get a max of -1.5.

So as I mentioned I think I will be saving the $1000 and putting it towards a set of coilovers that give better camber adjustment.

The only way you'll get more camber adjustment from coilovers is if they lower the car... but you already said your car is as low as you want it.

I would check your camber adjustment cams....I have my car lowered close to 2" and I can get -2.7 camber on the front.....I had one stuck cam...and I had to disassemble and lube them to get max adjustments

dannobre, by cam you mean the adjustment "nut"? My problem is balanced on both sides but I asked suspension people to look at it anyway. They couldnt see anything wrong, lubed up the adjusters anyway. takahashi has Tein flex and he is getting -2 something as well.

I have Racing Logic coilovers. Not the best in the world but they were an experiment for me. I think its just part of the design of these coilovers.

the coilovers won't effect the amount of camber adjustability except by the degree that they lower the car.

The "nuts" that you mean.........move an eccentric cam adjuster that alters the suspension geometry and changes the wheel camber.

My cams were stuck. When I loosened the bolts...the cams didn't turn...and therefore didn't change anything

Hmmm, I kinda figured that there may be slight differences in the "angles" across different brands hence the differences. But looks like I might have to have a squizz at the cams when I get it up on the hoist next weekend at our DIY workshop. CHeers for the input, heres looking forward to some more camber.

i would've thought a JDM tuner would have this product already... hmm. i was speaking to a JIC rep yesterday and asked about an adjustable front upper a-arm. he said i was the 4-5th person _this week_ to ask about such a part. he said the r+d manager wasn't leaning towards making one however.

We just modified the stock upper arms on the Falken RX-8, and with the stock adjustment bolt maxed out on negative camber, we now are at 4.5 degrees, which is what the driver wants. It can be taken down to a minimum of 1.8 degrees negative if we max out the stock camber bolt in the positive direction. Wasn't hard and didn't take that long to do. It does change the toe quite a bit in the toe out department. But the good thing is that at full lock, the tire is flat, and it is sitting right at .2 degrees negative camber on the load wheel, so it will work nicely. We also just finished modifying the stock spindals to give more steering angle, but that's another story LOL.

You think there is a market for that part?

-4.5 while looks good is probably overkill, but yes I think there is a market of at least 1 .

i myself am pretty happy with my alignment, but i'd like to try a bit more front negative camber. besides we know that there's massive variability between rx-8s regarding how much front negative camber a given car can get.

I'm only running -2.0 deg in the front and have a lot more available, but don't need it. I'm wearing slightly more on the inside than the outside as it is and don't drive much on the street ...

OK well I chucked my car on a mates hoist today and cleaned the camber cam. That in itself helped make aligning the car easier (adjustments were smoother) but didnt help with the amount of adjustment.

What I did do was understand how the adjustment works, I also noted that with the adjustment bolt turned so that the "washer" is pushing the wheels out the furthest possible (most negative camber) that I could lever the wheel in the cam even further. I could also tighten the nut so that it would stay there. I didnt as I figured the washer and the lobe it rests against form some stability so put it back to the highest setting.

I havent had my alignment done yet (couldnt get in until Monday), but I am starting to wonder if the adjusting washer that is fixed to the adjusting bolt is irregular between different bolts (some are larger or more offset than others) and hence the inconsistant results?

Make sense?

Andrew

AFAIK there should be no difference in hardware between cars. There might be more offset cambolts available that would fit. The alignment guys have some weird stuff that they use on cars that are pranged up
