need a quick help with tire thickness

I am sorry to post a new thread after just a short search, cuz i havent found any direct answer for the tire size that i am thinking of now. i just placed an order of 5zigen rims last night with 18x8.5 +38 all around. Now i am thinking to get a set of tires to fit but i have been worrying about the effect if i am gonna lower the height of the car. Some people said i would possibly roll the fender if i am gonna get 225/45 18 tires. So then if i get 225/40 18, would the problem disappear? and would the thinner tire cause some disadvantages to my car or to the ride feeling?

Your width should be fine.

Do another search. You will learn how to read or go to tire rack in order to understand.

45 is height 40 is height

Width is 225 plus off-set counts.

The 40/45# is the sidewall height expressed as a % of the width (225)

So you will want to keep the stock diameter/circumference so the speedo is happy.

You could go to 245/40's no problem and they will fit at that offset

i am sorry, what i meant was the height.....but why stock tire is 45 not 40? will the car look like a **** with lower tires? or just make the rims look pretty big...

The stock tire is chosen to make the circumference (distance around the tire in one revolution)....match what they want for the speedo and performance reasons.....

So with a stock wheel and 225 width tire...it came to a 45 series tire.....

No big secret here....

The car will have bigger wheel gaps with a lower sidewall tire....and the wheels will look smaller...plus the speedo will be off a considerable amount It will improve the effective gear ratio though...bit better acceleration
