Need Help with Tires i just bought...

Hiya guys,

My OEM back tires were racing slicks so i got some new backs today.. (OEM = Potenza 040)

I came out with Nitto NT555 225/45/18... Now i cant give these a good test yet because my back tires have way more grip than my fronts.. which throws the car all over the place..

As soon as i can have them rotate the backs to the front, and put the grip in the front of the car where it belongs.. I can see what kind of tire the Nitto is.

However, After reading through this site everyone seems to love the Kumho SPT., I am thinking of just exchanging. My question is, I go to the track maybe once a year, so is the Kumho a track tire thats super soft and gona die in 15k miles?... I am looking for something with softness and grip but more for everyday driving.

Also I have heard the Falken Azensis is decent.

Any suggestions?

The SPT isn't a track tire. In fact, the tread wear rating is in the 300s (better than crappy OE Potenzas). They should last a while, and are cheap too.

The Falkens are great performance tires and do well on the track or autox. Probably wouldn't last as long as the SPTs though.

Do you expect the tire shop to exhange your tires for you after already driving around on them?

I would go for the SPTs.

Also I would check that the tires are mounted for correct rotation if they are that different back to front...

OK..

Officially, I hate the Nitto.. its too high off the rim.. looks like a camry tire. And nothing special in the grip department. Think I can work something out with my tire shop to exchange them ( i hope)

Next question.. Nitto is too much rubber off the rim.. not High profile enough..

Would you say the Kumho is the same profile as OEM?

I would think that would depend more on the size, rather than brand, of tire purchased.

exact match in size between OEM and Nitto.

Nitto is an extra inch or two off rim.

that might be because your OEM rears are worn out.
