Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

Has anyone here ever tried Michelin Alpine Sport A/S's on any cars they use to own (or currently own for that matter)?

I'm getting an RX-8 next month and was thinking about putting a set of these on instead of having a dedicated set of snow tires. All my cars in the past (including my RX-7) have had high performance all-seasons and they worked just fine in most weather. Plus, usually when it snows heavily like this past year, I don't drive until the roads have been cleared, so I'm not overly concerned about that.

Now I realize that Michelin doesn't make these in 225/45/18, but I was thinking about going with a slightly wider size like 235/45/18 or even 245/40/18. Can anyone tell if they think these would fit the stock rims, as well as the pros and cons of going this route?

Thanks in advance.

Tony

I'm not familiar with that particular tire. However, in terms of driving in snow, a thinner tire is better (not wider).

I'm not looking for a snow tire per se. I'm looking for an All Season tire that lives up to it's name. The only tires that I've read about that supposedly deliver year round usage are the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (I said Alpine, I was wrong.) and the Continental ContiExtremeContact..

Unfortunately, neither one comes in 225/45/18.

I'm more wondering whether or not these tires in a size 235/45/18, 245/40/18, or 255/40/18 would fit on the standard rim and what the ramifications of using a wider tire would be.

Yes a narrower tire would be ideal in snow, however, I've never had a problem driving on all season tires. If I thought it would be that big of a deal I would get a set of 17" wheels and tires to fit.
