Question a little input on tires please

I just bought 18x8's. Went to les schwab and was informed that two of my tires are at the wear indicator. Oops, I knew I was close, but figured I had a month or two left (it's been in the shop for a while).

I'm looking at 225/45/18 ZR

discounttiredirect.com says that my options include:

245/40-18
255/40-18
275/35-18

...but that is for the stock 18x8.5 right? What should I be looking at for tire size, is 225/45/18 the best choice?

I know I've seen people throw out different numbers depending on the profile, or how much traction they want, or other factors. I like spirited driving, but this isn't a track car. I also want good wear length and a comfortable ride when not "giving it the guts". The Bridgestones are supposedly good for 40k, can't find wear specs on the others. Lower profile would be nice, but it is at the bottom of the list.

Considering the following brands, the top is what I'm leaning towards, bottom :

Toyo Proxes 4
Pirelli PZero Nero M&S
Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance
Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position

I'd even look at Kuhmo's, which are a lot cheaper (which would be nice, but cheaper isn't better, just cheaper). The only reason I put Bridgestones back on my list (I had those on my previous 8, and prefer the Dunlops on this one better) was the deal from tirerack right now.

I really didn't want to HAVE to buy tires right now, but it seems silly to pay to have my wheels changed out and then have to do this again once I pick the right tires. Thanks in advance guys!

Am I on the right track? Opinions?

I just installed kumo SPT's, they're pretty good for the cost. Quiet ride, and nice wear (I think it's 320).

This size will fit your stock rims nicely:

245/40ZR-18 Kumho Ecsta SPT In Stock $128.00 (tirerack.com)

I have the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position and I love em. I am in Mississippi so I don't get snow, but summer tires suck when the temp drops below 50.

Where are you located?

made an edit...

I'm in the Seattle area, so I'm stuck with having all seasons. My stock rims are going into storage. If we were somewhere like colorado I could talk my wife into summer and winter tires... no luck up here.

btw i wouldn't recommend larger than 245...

even with a 8.5" rim, a 245 tire is slightly wider. Your stock rim is 8.0" wide, so larger than 245 is really not so great..

If I can find it, what about a 235/40?

It is a bit wider than stock, but not pushing the limit like a 245 would be.

OK, price won out in the end. The bridgestone S03's were just too good a deal to pass up. Just ordered them and will have in a few days...

thanks for the opinions guys!

Smart idea - very worth it for that price.
Thought you said you had to stay with All Seasons though?

Question pinion angle problems?

hey guys! i posted this in lowered suspension also but i figured two sources are better than one. anyway my problem is that i've had my truck lowered for a couple months and i've noticed that under acceleration from a dead stop, the truck rattles and shakes really hard coming out of first and than once the truck is moving, everything is fine. it is lowered 4/5 inches in the rear without any shims. so my question is that could this be just the pinion angle is off or is it clutch/tranny related? thanks.

Yeah, I made a small booboo. I got so excited over the price I forgot I just moved up to washington... or something.

I called tire rack and had them change the order to the yokohama AVID all seasons. Price may have won, but sheer stupidity kicked in for a sec there with an assist. The yoko's are only about 120 more in total price. I'm still saving over 300 from les schwab's price.

re: elmerratliff, I'd bring it in and have them check the engine mounts
