Hi all,

I have searched the forums for some time now and not found an answer to this question. I would like to know how these pads compare solely as daily drivers in the winter, specifically a cold Canadian winter.

Anyone with experience with either the HPS, or Ceramic, please advise. I know how they compare in normal conditions, HPS better for braking, Ceramics better for dust/noise. Also if neither of these performs well in the winter, is their another pad that does that will fit the bill for me?

I am interested in a pad that performs well as a DD but also can have some spirited fun with and I have read from one or two others on different sites that the ceramics are not so good in the winter. I would prefer the ceramics for their limited brake dust and noise, but staying alive through this winter is also a concern...

not only are there at least a dozen thread discussions on these pads, they are street pads and you are over thinking the situation wrt to winter use

I do believe I say specifically how they compare under normal use. I have read most of those threads, I'm mainly concerned with ceramics and heat up time in the -25 degree weather. You believe me to be over thinking that situation? If so thanks for your advice. For the video, you can stick it up your exhaust pipe. It is a question about ceramics from hawk in the winter. If you can show me that thread or a thread which discusse that then I'm sorry. Otherwise take you own advice. :D

Performs well in the winter? What are you doing on public roads that you need pads to "perform"...Your not going to notice a difference between the two.. Each will work just fine.

I read a review this am before I was gonna buy them on tirerack that said they were a bit iffy in the cold. I though it best to check on here if anyone had said anything substantial about this. By the way, are you from somewhere that regularly dips into negative thirty celsius? I'm sorry for being concerned.

you don't have to be sorry, there is misinformation everywhere on the internet, an opinion doesn't make it so

the issue is tires not street brakes, as long as you have good winter tires such as Blizzak etc. that are still in the good winter tread depth range you will be OK and won't need to worry about them overwhelming your street brake pads

Not sure about everyone else, but I use my brakes less as the weather gets shittier as I prefer not to land in a snowbank or in someones back seat. Brake performance is the least of your worries in the winter, as Team said, get adequate tires.

If you are driving in such a way that brake performance is a concern in the winter months, then you clearly need to re-evaluate your driving habits.

Why does everyone who complain about other people not take the time to read. I specifically say I use the 8 as my daily driver as well. So my concern is a pad that can perform well as that. I was interested in a dust free noise free pad, however i had read that the ceramics performed poorly in the winter. It's real simple. Don't join a flame if you haven't seen the kindling.

And I know about having good winters making the difference, I'm running four nokian hakka's with 7/32 left for this winter and have a set of four blizzaks with about 8/32 left for next winter. It's nice to have access to free used tires.

I just replaced my OEM pads with Hawk Ceramic. Honestly couldn't see clear difference about the stopping distance. But it did avoid all the annoying braking noise. Haven't had a time to try HPS out.

IMO, those sugguest the poor performance in winter, most likely referring to an specially severe cold weather. I never had a chance to experience that, but feel you don't need to worry too much about it unless the winter there is too horrible

I am waiting on a BNIB set of HPS front pads to arrive from Hawk. Won this as racing contingency this year, but have no need for them so I will be selling them once received.

It looks like OEM is your best bet since the HPS start working properly at a disc temperature of 100°F (38°c).
