How wide can I go with tires?
How wide can I go with tires?
I am new rx-8 owner. I Love my car. I would like to put some new rubber on the car but I would like to know what the maximum width I could get away with is without rubbing against the wheel well. Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Before I answer, I must flame: SEARCH NOOB!
Now...
If you're talking about the stock wheels, a common upgrade is 245/40R18
If you're just talking in general, on aftermarket wheels, I've seen 285/30R18 on 18x9.5 +45. A common fit is the Enkei RP-F1 18x9.5 +45 running 275/35R18.
I'm sure others will chime in with their applications/knowledge.

Ever since I saw this car in the showroom, I always wanted to buy one. When i eventually got around to it I looked at the rear end and noticed is wasnt as fat as i wanted it to be. when i mean fat, i'm talking about wide. i consider spacers but i figured the extra traction might come handy on a wider tire.
I think it all depends on what kinda wheel you go with. Obviously there is a limit on how wide a tire you can put on the stock 18 x 8 (maybe 245 / 18) but if you go with an aftermarket wheel, you can easily put on a 275/35/19 and not run into much of a problem. Just be weary of the high offset required for this sort of an application. Good look with your search.
