Don't go with larger diameter brakes. Especially if they end of being heavier. You'll just hurt the stopping distance and performance of your car.

My $0.02 is Racingbrake 2 piece open slot rotors. Stock size. The open slot rotors are pretty unique.

if you want jdm bling go with endless or project mu.

idk how well project mu performs, but endless will perform great too like others said.

if your looking for brakes for the bling factor only, seriously thats a little dumb, unless u have money to waste. Out of all the brakes listed, most of them will increase stopping distances initially, you wont see any improvement unless your tracking the car really hard where the stock brakes start to fade, then u will start to see your improvement, the stock brakes on the 8 r superb for a street car, if your going to buy upgraded brakes, for the price they cost ,you might as well get your moneys worth and buy something that actually is better performance wise. Out of all the brakes out, only ones that r lighter than the stock units r going to show sig performance improvements, if the brake kit is heavyier than stock, not a lot of thought was put into it, and it was meant to sell to riceboys anyways who dont know that heavyer brakes are bad, there r several write ups about people doing brake swaps, and the initial brake distances are actually increased....Aka....buy racingbreaks kit, its the lightest that I know of, and is better than the stock units as far as look goes and will give a performance increase, and its one of the cheeper kits. Otherwise buy some paint and save your money

i just installed wilwood from tce on mine,i take my car to the track and drive really hard,i installed the 14 inches kit,it looks great(it s the biggest available for that car but it weight much less than the stock and install was super easy,you can find parts in every race shop and the name is as good as brembo.
i will post pictures of my car over the week end.have fun

The Wilwood "Little Brake Kit" is well known. TCE makes a good kit.

Mazdatrix had a Wilwood brake kit on an RX-8 at their Sevenstock display. It's not advertised on their site though. I agree Wilwood is a good quality name. I see them all over serious track cars.

Nice to hear you made it to Laguna and put them through their paces Eric. I had some reservations about the use of the BP20 pads for that given they are not really a true track pad. I'm sure the added efficiency of the rotor helped out over stock. Next race weekend we might look to put you into some real track pads: Poly H but you'll need to keep them hot to work well and not chew up rotors!

i wouldn't waste money on a BBK..to buy it just for looks would be useless unless you actually track your car. The racing break kit would be the most cost effective solution.

The RacingBrake BBK with slotted 1-piece rotors is around $1500 and damn nice.

But since you're just doing for "looks" Endless is or Project Mu is more bling factor, but StopTech, RacingBrake, and Brembo are more functional (while looking good IMO)

It seems like you prefer the W4A caliper over the BSL4r is that correct? Is there any pictures of the fitment? I'm especially interested in what you have for the "custom" 13.3" rotor.

Personally I prefer the W4a (and when correct the W6a) over the BSL4r now in service on the 14" kit.

There's only one simple reason for this- mass. The W series body is much larger with far more bridge area. It also has a pad that's both larger and has about 15% more total area than the common 7416 pad. It can be fit to either a 14 or the tighter 13.3 where you need to shoehorn in as much as you can inside a 17.

So why the BSL4r over the W4a then? Wheel fit, cost, and the booted vs non booted piston arguement (which in 14yrs I find to be a non issue) and also providing a 14" kit to fit the stock wheel.

Here's a BSL6r vs the W4a. *the BSL4r is nearly identical in size and the 4a uses the same body, just 4 holes.

I would seriously consider a Brembo GT kit. -Never disliked a GT kit on any car ive driven. I have been disappointed with many of the options listed by the OP.

Greddy is made by AP (or Alcon, i forgot) and they make really good products. Endless are also pretty good but i'm not sure how accessible parts, pads, or support are. Stoptech and Brembo are very common and both very good products with a lot of support, pads, and parts available.

Remember the OEM distance for 100kmh-0..... 35,5m (best in the WORLD for a production car in all categories and I mean, better than a FERRARI, M5, etc)

Does the RX8 need bigger brakes? - not really
Can you track the RX8 with its current setup without issues - with upgraded pads and fluid - Yes
Will you benefit from a BBK - depends on the kit and many factors - maybe
Should you get a BBK - depends on the person, some get them for looks (like the OP)
If you're going to track your car do you need bigger brakes on your RX8? - No

...to name a few. First off, why compare your car to a 4,000lb sedan (M5) for braking comparison? And its definitely not the best braking in the world. But the car has amazing brakes stock and are more than up to track use. I don't even like looking at these tests because they are a 1 time cold stop which can vary with weather condition, tire construction, and many other factors. Look at the 911 Turbo and especially the Carrera GTs performance on the 60-0. Terrible for a car with $20K ceramic brakes -because those brakes don't work at their peak unless they are warmed up.

Just look at those tests with a grain of salt, because they really don't tell you that much.

The 8 has good brakes already as many people posted. Just buy those caliper covers if you want bling :P

I just painted mine black. I figured red is just too bold and shouts being painted, silver was my second choice.. Black does the job well, it looks like its suppose to be that way (just the way i want it) it looks like stock.
