Hankook Icebear W300

Just bought these tyres but the size is 225/40/18. Is it ok to put this on my car cuz the original one is 225/45/18. Anyone try these tyres on their cars? I m worry cuz someone said 18'' snow tire is not as good as the 17'' one. Is that true? How bad compare to 17''? Thank for any advice.

Not sure. I have the 17" ice bears, and they kick all ***.

Im sure the 18's will be just fine for you.

The saleman said it will fit fine but because it a lil bit smaller than the stock one, it gonna make the odo meter count more miles than normal. I not really got wat he meant.

Your speedo will be a little fast but not enough to wory. But the lower profile and bad roads would worry me a little. The 225/50x17 would give more sidewall to protect the wheel. But I wouldn't worry unless you are traveling mountain passess, etc., where the roads can get really bad. I ran the W300s through two ice storms and four 600 mile trips that took me over mountain passes last winter and they did great.

Also, the lower profile tires will give a little less ground clearance, which is exactly the opposite of what you want in a snow tire. But, overall I suspect they will work fine.

Tee ... I don't know where you live or how much snowfall you get but here in Calgary, there were a couple of guys that swapped to winter tires onto stock rims and they did fine in terms of snow clearance (we get lots of snow).
