I changed my fulid with Motul 600 and put 5 drops of blue food coloring in the 16 oz. container so I could see the fluid color change when bleeding.

After further thought, the food coloring is water based. Will the 5 drops in the brake fluid hurt performance? Obvisouly we don't want water in our lines, but will 5 drops really matter?

or you can just mix some ATE SuperBlue in there to make your Motul look blue, or you can just use ATE SuperBlue to begin with, oh wait, that makes too much sense for you...

 

Let's see....water based dye in a brake system that we expressly change so that it DOESN'T absorb water.....doesn't sound like a great idea to me??

 

at least you'll know when it's completely flushed out again

5 drops in like what, a quart or more of brakefluid? I'd say its no worse than leaving the cap open on a bottle of brakefluid for a day. Realistically you're not going to hurt anything. But, personally I wouldn't add anything to the fluid that wasn't well...fluid. Go with the other options suggested above next time.

 

 

I've used ATE blue before, hence the idea of a few drops of blue dye in the motul. 5 drops to 16 ounces is not much, so hopefully it won't matter too much.

Why didn't you use red dye?

 

why not use RIT dye? Its at least dry fine powder thats extremely concentrated.

Never needed dye to bleed brakes though....

 

just stomp on them a few times and see if it makes a difference... unless you really want to be harassed

 

I just came across this old thread. I buy ATE Super Blue and Gold, and then alternate between the two when bleeding. If I have blue in the car, I add the gold. You know you've flushed a particular caliper when you see the gold start to come out.
