Its definately time for some new tires and i have narrowed it down to the Nitto Invo or the Falken RT-615's. It would be used for daily driving (mainly the weekends) and about three or four track days in the year. Which ones do you guys think would be the better choice? both are about the same price and just lookin to get a years worth out of them. Thanks for the help and let me know your thoughts.

Why does two specifically? They're not comparable tires and have very different characteristics. The main question is, would you rather have a civil daily drive and sacrifice some trackday performance or have a louder daily drive and shorter tire life for a somewhat better trackday experience.

 

Ditto. those 2 choices don't even compare. you could probably get a better tire somewhat in the middle that would have good characteristics of both those.

 

Its manily a question if the RT-615 would work well as a daily driver and if they would last a whole spring/summer/fall withought needing replaced. If not then i was thinking the invo for a better street tire that will still grip and last a little longer.

RT-615s will easily last a yr, and esp. if you only do a few (5-8) track days a year. First I got the 235/40/18 RT-615s and they are great on stock wheels, on the road and on the track. They are really a quick change artist... really good DD tire on the street, gui track tire under track heat conditions. I still have those as a barely legal tread depth set on the stock wheels and store my car on them, they still pass state inspection.

I think the Nitto Invo may not be even close to the best tire in it's class your money can buy, and as others have said, better tires at a similar price can be had if that's the grade of tire you're looking for (low end street tire). And they won't hold a candle to the RT-615 for handling.

As a shameless plug, I'm going to have a set of 275/35/18 RT-615s with ~50% tread available shortly, pm me if you're interested for particulars.

Did you run the 275's on the stock rim?? If so, how'd you like them? I'm thinking of 255's for autocross (vs 245's).

 

No, on Enkei 9.5"x18". I don't think I'd go over 235 on the 8" stockers. I'm a firm believer in giving a tire as wide a wheel support as is reasonably possible, better for the sidewalls to be like this \_/ or |_| rather than like this /__\ otherwise you're pinching the tire, and messing with the contact patch, making for sloppy handling response. For a 255 I'd go with a 9" min or 9.5" rim for sure.

 

thanks for you input, the potential sloppy handling does bother me.

My reasoning for the 255's over 245's was even with the distortion the patch would (this is a guess though) be about the same and save 2lbs (ish) a corner - of course as a newb I probably won't notice the weight! I'll save the expreimentation for later!
