Does 225/45R18 and 245/40R18 work better than 245/40R18 all around?

Relative to zero offset, +45 is more "aggressive" than +15, but neither here nor there indeed.

Getting back to the OP, you have to consider rim diameter, rim width, rim offset, tire width and last but not least tire aspect ratio (sidewall height) to preclude fender rubbing, especially when suspension is dropped.

235x45 is fine on the stock 18x8 rims, but not worth it imho.

245x40 is of course also aok and preferred on stock.

Either go 245 or 225. Relatively same prices anyway...

how bad will the mpg's drop on the 245 vs. the 225? is it really anything big?

btw: the speedo will be off about 1 mph (will display faster than actually moving). Again, no big thing.
