Discuss JIC FLT-A2 height adjustment here
Fun with numbers.
Installed JIC FLT-A2 coilovers, Racing Beat sway bars front and rear and have Bridgestone Potenza S-02 245/40-18 tires on OEM wheels.
With a Mazdaspeed body kit installed I need at least 4.25" clearance from the bottom of the side skirt in order to minimize scraping. Did a rough height adjustment before taking it in for alignment and corner weighting. Weighing was done with a half tank of gas and 140lbs in both driver and passenger seat.
Rough adjustment:
LF: 26" to fender, 6 1/8" to suspension pickup point.
RF: 26 1/16" to fender, 6 1/4" to suspension pickup point.
LR: 25 1/2" to fender, 7 1/2" to suspension pickup point.
RR: 25 5/8" to fender, 7 1/2" to suspension pickup point.
Cross weight 1621 lbs, 48.3%
Left side 1684 lbs, 50.1%
Rear 1624 lbs, 48.4%
Total weight 3359 lbs.
Final adjustment:
LF: 26 1/4" to fender, 6 3/8" to suspension pickup point.
RF: 26 1/4" to fender, 6 3/8" to suspenion pickup point.
LR: 26 1/4" to fender, 8 1/4" to suspension pickup point.
RR: 26 1/4" to fender, 8 1/4" to suspension pickup point.
Cross weight 1681 lbs, 50.0%
Left side 1686 lbs, 50.2%
Rear 1626 lbs, 48.4%
Total weight 3361 lbs.
Final height adjustment was done to keep front control arms and rear drive shafts nearly level. This helps minimize bump steer.
Alignment settings:
......... Initial . Height . Final
LF Camber -2.00 ... -1.80 .. -1.20
.. Caster +5.50 ... +5.10 .. +8.00
..... Toe -0.21" .. -0.10" . -0.06"
RF Camber -1.70 ... -1.60 .. -1.20
.. Caster +6.30 ... +6.00 .. +8.50
..... Toe -0.16" .. -0.20" . -0.06"
LR Camber -2.70 ... -1.90 .. -1.70
..... Toe +0.01" .. +0.01" . +0.06"
RR Camber -2.50 ... -1.80 .. -1.70
..... Toe +0.09" .. +0.05" . +0.06"
As you can see even a 1/4" height adjustment in front can change camber by 0.2 degrees. A 3/4" adjustment in the rear can change camber by 0.8 degrees.
We'll see what all these numbers mean when we autocross next month. One interesting thing of note is with the coilovers, the rear sway bar end links have a slight amount of preload on them. So do the front Racing Beat end links. Getting both replaced with quality heim joints is not a problem but now I have a set of new RB front end links that I don't need.
