I'm looking into getting some lowering springs for the 8 but I had a question--the Shinka has bigger dampners than the other 8's right? Would this affect on how the aftermarket springs fit?

I seriously doubt the dampers are so large that they would requure larger diameter springs. The perches might be a different size, though.

Heres a thought. Call a Mazda dealer and tell them you need some new springs for your Shinka. Ask them if the Shinka springs have a unique part number as compared to the normal sport springs. If not, you know you are safe.

I wouldn't bother with the shinka shocks. They are still not strong enough for the car, the back end is still floaty under heavy loads and there is still a fair amount of body roll.

Get some decent after market shocks you'll be far better off.

They are talking about the piston shaft size, 12mm vs 10mm, it wont have any affect on the springs you chose. The strange thing is the Mazda factory parts book does not have a part # for the Shinka. They list a standard and a sport but that is it. I wonder if they could be using the MazdaSpeed shocks on the Shinka..... Only one way to find out, someone pull the part # off of a stock Shinka shock.

It is the internal piston size that is the difference, not anything external. And it is 14mm (Shinka) vs. 12 mm (stock). I do not think it will make any difference when choosing springs, but a part number cross-reference will answer any of your questions.

I ammend my first statement: It's 14mm vs. 12.5mm.

Also, I checked AllData, a industry database that contains manufacturer's part numbers and prices. They do not have Shinka numbers, which most likely means that Mazda has not published them. Maybe one of the Mazda tech members would know?
