Didnt know we were talking about racing, or racing tires.

Also the way it was posted sounded like he was talking about straight line acceleration = no way. This has nothing to do with racing.

What (not completely worn out) tire have you done this with in an RX-8?
Never said it was an 8. It was a stock sentra (even worse) and it was dry and the tires had about 2k of normal driving on them. In that run I chirped every gear except 6th.

Like I said, they sucked and I was happy to get rid of them and will never buy one of their tires again.

So, has anyone tried to simply contact TireRack about this? I'm sure they'd be helpful enough to figure this out.

I called the tire rack and according to them, they haven't recieved them, therefore, that weight is likely not correct as they weigh the tires once they come in.

I asked then our course, where did 19lb come from? The customer service guy theorized that the computer might input a weight as a placeholder for shipping purposes to give some way to estimate shipping costs. He wasn't exactly sure.

The tires could still be pretty light, my Pirelli's are 21lb in the stock size so 19lb isn't impossible, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I expect them to hit our shores some time mid next month.

Okay, but I believe you even less since you're talking about a sentra.

Update: Tirerack has the tires in stock. Both the 225/45-18 and 245/40-18 fitments are 23 pounds. Looks like I'm going with the Advan Sports.

I've been pretty happy with the Sports. I'm not sure if it's the wider tire or a softer sidewall but they seem softer than the stock tires. I still wish they would have had the higher end advans in 19's.

I've only have 50 miles on mine though. I think if I tighten up the rear coilovers a click or so it will offset things.

Please keep me updated on how you feel about the Advan Sports as they're currently at the very top of my list when I do switch wheels and tires (something like 5 months from now). How is turn-in, grip, steering feel, noise, and ride quality? Thanks.

Some of us "race" on street tire i.e. 140+ treadwear rating

I highly recommend that you drop the weight mumbo-jumbo and just buy the Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 tires, they're not cheap but they're worth every penny if you want performance

AD07s aren't available in the 245/40-18 size. It is sized for 255/40-18, but that's just a tad wider than I feel comfortable fitting on an 8 inch wide wheel. Anyone want to buy me a set of 18x8.5 Volk CE28Ns?

What are you talking about? I never mentioned weight. And how did this turn into a racing discussion? Who's talking about racing?

Its amazing how few people actually read the threads they post on.
