My new rpf1's wrapped in Toyo R1R (265-35-R18)...these tires are just so meaty.
now just need to get some track time into these things then upgrade to some coilovers

ps.. another thanks to Brice from race roots for organising the group buy and his continued service and great prices.

18 down to 17

Hey Guys,

I'm looking to join the Enkei club (rpf1's) for pure performance reasons (not really caring about the bling bling effect) in the very near future.

Has anyone gone from an 18" down to a 17"?

Did you notice a significant difference or is it pretty minor?

I'm kinda second guessing myself now after I learned that the speedometer calibration gets thrown off changing wheel size etc.

Any help would be much appreciated.

the stock O.D. tire is something like 26.1 inches...

if it bothers ya on the speedo, try yokohama's site to see tire choices that can mirror the oem dimensions.

hey, u gotta sacrifice something to gain something right?

on a side note, just patiently hoping on the pf01's arrival. another nice rim to consider from enkei...

Thanks guys for the info, I thought the speedo was based off the rim not the tire.

Does anyone happen to know if the 17" give a noticeable difference against the 18" RPF1's?

I've read a lot of the links on the site already but haven't really found anything that explains what the effects of diameter has on performance.

^^^READ ABOVE, speedo is based of the overall diameter of wheel/tire combination, the overall OEM diameter is 25.9in(tire size 225/45/18) if you get 17x9.5" rims then you want to get 275/40/17 tires which will give you an overall diameter of 25.7in, almost identical to OEM.
once again it has NOTHING TO DO WITH RIM SIZE, ITS ALL ABOUT TIRE SIZE.

Sorry Khronus I guess I should have been more specific. (Thanks for the link though).

I understand the whole speedo effect now, I was more curious if anyone out there knew what the performance differences between an RPF1 18" and RPF1 17" of same tire size, type etc would be.

Either way you've helped me settle on the 17" the above question is more out of curiosity at this point then anything else. Thanks much for your help.

I'll post pics after I get them installed.

More tire sidewall aka smaller diameter rims will get you a softer ride and less responsive turning. How much of a difference it makes is something I'm not sure about. Main thing for me would be the WAYY cheaper tires for 17".

^i had rubbing problems when i first put the wheels on so i had to do some work on the fenders and bumpers. now no problems!

I've run both 17s and 18s. One the street you'll like the 17s, they ride better esp if the sidewalls are a bit taller. You'll be hard pressed to notice any response difference. On the track you'll like the 17s, they go faster and weigh less. If you use typical 17in tires like 255x17 in 40 series on a 9" Enkei wheel you'll get a bit of numerical advantage due to the smaller diameter (1" smaller in fact 3.6%), and the sidewall height is identical with an 18in rim using 45 series tires so your response won't be any less.

And as mentioned, the wheel and the tires cost less in 17".

Looks awesome! Now I know exactly what this setup would look like if I was to put my stock bumper back with RPF1's.

Anyways, that's a pretty agressive setup, and I like it. How much fender work was this to fit? I didn't think 18x9.5 +15 would fit.

If your looking for an R Compound, check out the Nitto NT01 or the BFG R1.

Personally I would choose the Nitto NT05. They are cheaper then every tire listed except for the XS. And they are also a harder compound which only gets better as it heats up. Which will be much better for Track events than a softer AutoCross compound tire that will start to chunk on the track.

Hi!! I'm asking the opinion of a few persons that have the RPF1 18x9.5. Planning to run in solo/autocross events without lowering the car. OEM suspension with whatever chamber I can get. Will these rims, with the 275/35/18, touch the fenders, or any other part, when you race them?

First of all, thanks for your answer.

I will race my car with stock suspension only, Racing Beat sway bars and whatever negative camber I can get (I think it's around -1.5). In the Good Win site they wrote that sometimes, when you can't give more camber, the Aszenis tire in this rim/tire combo could rub and it would be necessary to work with the rear fender lip.

What is your experience with this?
