Damn. So glad I ordered when I did.

I didn't realize how expensive summer rubber in this size costs previously.

Mine have a build date of 1508 which from what I recall (the exact standard escapes me) is either the 15th or 150th day of 2008 so they're not that old either.

Hope these will be same (or not worse) than Kumho SPT (lasted almost 20K!)
Got my tires today.

Thanks for the heads up, hioctane. $84 a piece shipped is an absolute steal, and the price has now gone back up to $145 a tire.

A big shout out to you.

My prediction: Anyone who bought these to use for dry weather grip/handling will realize they're not worth 80 bucks, much less 145. Star Specs are only a few bucks more than the current overblown retail on these poor-excuse-for-performance-rubber.

As asked numerous times by numerous parties in this thread.... how would you rate these to the stock tires? Do you have first-hand experience with them or is it your intent to just **** on the thread?

They've gotten better reviews on Tire Rack from customers than most of the other tires in the same category.

Maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong.

FWIW: I was not impressed with the stock tires that came on my new 8.

No, no threadcrapping by me. The g-force sport, as a hi-po tire simply sucks. I tried these behind the wheel of somebody else's Integra and they blew compared to the Yoko AVS Int I had on my teg.

Which stock tires are you comparing to - Bridgestones or Dunlops? I've no experience with the 8090s, but can tell you for certain that the RE040s trump the g-forces easily if performance is what you're after.

As for noise with the OEMs, well, all the max grip tires get louder as they wear. So one shouldn't compare a brand new touring tire and tout its amazing quietness while comparing to their just-dismounted/highly-worn RE040s, 8090s, or any other tire that provides serious dry weather grip.

wow,

i dont think anyone in this thread said it was a great hi po tire.. it was a great deal.. as was the the bridgestone pp2 at 105, which was a great hi po tire.. and track worthy..

as to the star specs, great tire.. i have them on now. over kill for the street..

i think you miss the point of the heads up of the thread..

apples and oranges.

Exactly.

It's not like I'm taking my car to the track.

I'm driving on the highway and local roads, trying not to rack up any speeding tickets.

Serious question when you own one of the best handling cars (at any price):
If all you do is cruise at slow speeds what's the point of owning it? Why not a sedan that gets at least 50% better mileage and has much better resale?

It's not as if I need to maximize the handling to the nth degree - these tires will be more than adequate for my purposes.

If I tracked my car, I'd buy something much more dedicated to that purpose.

I doubt more than 10% of 8 owners ever take their cars to the track. It's a fantastic daily driver.

After ~100 miles they definitely better than old Kumho SPT
Less noise, more grip and a not as harsh over bumps.

Took them to autox today - performed better there as well.
They had less than 80 miles at that point so it's probably a bit early to make a call.

For 70$/tire they rocks.

I had g-Force Sports on my 240SX for years and was extremely happy with them. However, I would strongly recommend against autocrossing on them. Here is what mine looked like after only a handful of events:

Interesting, I did not experienced anything like that (so far).

With 40 psi front/rear there's very minor damage to these tires from 3 autox runs (~50 sec. each).

Local SCCA autox held on large parking lot (Oakland Coliseum) which has smooth asphalt surface - very easy on tires.

Now at ~200 miles tires feel really good, I can sence much more traction coming out of the turns.
Overall they more comfortable as well (expected from brand new tires vs old worn out).
