that said, i suggest the kuhmo ecsta spt. less than $100/tire, and leagues better than the potenzas that came stock on the car.

read the thread glyphon posted, several people had the KDW-2's and ALL basically said it is VERY NOISY, much noisier than the stock Potenzas

For what it's worth. I had ecsta supras on my mustang and I hated them. Sure they were cheap, but they were loud as hell and rode like crap. Their dry performance was ok and the wet performance was freaking *terrible*.

I recommend the yokohama AVS series tire. A little more expensive but I feel they're leagues better than the kumho's.

You're replacing JUST the front tires? Then there's only one safe choice - get the exact same tires that you've got on the back (ie, same as the ones being replaced on the front).

The RX-8 is a sports car, not a cheapo econobox. Handling matters, especially safe handling. Mixing'n'matching brands of tires is a REAL bad idea from a safety perspective.

If you want to consider a different brand or model of tire, you need to buy 4, not 2. End of story.
