Jake -

Don't bother with what others have said, it is not relevant to actually answering your question.

The fact of the matter is, they are not likely magnesium wheels, but rather an aluminum alloy. Magnesium wheels can be $1500/wheel+, not including tires. Thus, with a standard aluminum alloy wheel, your options are wide open.

You can anodize your wheels, but it would not be advisable (at least, I wouldn't recommend it for long term use). Skip the hassle and speak with a local powder coat shop, or our friends over at www.wheelflip.com. Polishing a wheel + applying a translucent color via PC can give this sort of effect. Also, like I said, look into vacuum coating here -> http://www.olympicpowdercoating.com/...-metal-coating
thank you for answering my question. i'll be sure to take it to my local shop and get a quote. you said the color would be translucent, would that require the extremely expensive iridescent paint? or could other types of paint finishes do the job the same way?

i have about $400...powdercoating/vaccum coating is becoming an option very fast as this thread is progressing.

I just wanted to make sure you weren't a Saudi prince or something before advising you to have them powdercoated instead. Otherwise I was playing you along with the best intention later. That was hardly harsh.

Google your question on the general web and you can see that it isn't likely an easy or cheap proposition. From what I saw the general answer is you can have any color you want as long as it is tan or green, though I did see some mag motorcycle wheels that were anodized black. Deep metallic purple may be a stretch, but again anything is usually possible if you have ... dare I say ... deep enough pockets.

they will need to know the specific alloy makeup too, but the manufacturer can likely tell you this since you weree already talking to them

.
lol...ive never heard of that one before. but as i replied to bryan above i have about $400 saved. so...not looking too good on the budget of anodizing them deep purple i assume? i will take them to a metal specialist after the new years and make sure what they REALLY are. im not going to trust the tech specialist, its been proven on this thread that if they were in-fact mag wheels, they wouldve cost alot more than for what i bought them for.

also thank you for the help guys, i appreciate it!

Team, you weren't harsh at all. You've grown soft as of late

Jake - If you really want a cool finish, you can have the wheels polished, then shot with a translucent color (think of it like a clear coat with a tint in it). However, this can get a little pricey, as the wheels will need to be polished & powder coated.

$400 will get you a very nice dark/deep purple powder coat job; I would recommend you go that route. There are some really unique powders out there such as textured, highly metallic, etc. that should be able to provide the look you are going for. Contact a local PC shop and they should be able to provide samples
