Essentially the shocks help the spring hold a consistent height too. Go cut your shocks off and then scratch your head why the car is lower.

They make shocks designed to be used with lowering springs.

Because factory shocks are specifically designed to be used with factory springs, not lowering springs. But it also depends on the springs rate, length, etc.

It could sag a bit, but doesn't set the height. You can compress a shock by hand, it doesn't have enough force to hold up a car.

They make shocks to go with lowering springs because as you said.

Spring perches in a different location than stock, not an action of the damper itself just the construction.

Here is a pic prior to replacing the shocks. Springs were tested by Tein and were fine.

Rubbed on everything when my young daughter was in the back seat (70lbs or so). The wheels were only 18 x 9 +27.

Here is a pic after with new OEM replacement KYB's.

getting rid of the terrible red paint on the wheels might solve all your problems.

I'm not doubting that it was sagging with bad shocks, I'm just stating a fact.

I miss that exhaust.

Oh and here are some pics of the springs binding while the car was sitting with the old shocks on. I assumed the springs were sagging since all the 'experts" told me shocks had nothing to do with ride height.

Those rims are long gone. I miss them though. The red is a love it or hate it look. Just like your car I guess.

I missed your fact. What was it? Both shocks and springs affect ride height and every RX-8 is a bit different, which is why different stock RX-8s can be different ride heights.

Or why an RX-8 with H techs and stock shocks can be lower than an RX-8 with S techs and stocks shocks.

My and grungepups car (which has stock spec wheels and tires)

Don't get butt hurt man, I'm just proving a point. If you did't want to discuss it then you shouldn't have chimed in.

Not butthurt at all, I'm laughing my *** off.

You have one instance, to my 10+ years of experience dealing with this.
Not gonna sit here and try to get through to you since you obviously have no interest in reading what I'm writing.

Well I discussed my issues with several forum "experts", researched online, and a spoke with a couple of reputable shops here locally and all of them told me that my shocks being bad would have nothing to do with ride height and that only springs affect ride height unless there is something else physically broke. But yet replacing my shocks with new ones restored my ride height.

Another local member had an almost exactly similar issue with a set of brand new Tokico D specs. Putting his stock shocks back on (same springs) restored his ride height as well.

Who cares indeed. I know what I've seen and dealt with, I only said ride height is dictated by the springs. The way a car rides/sits can be influenced by the shocks but they in no way set your ride height. Try taking your springs out and tell me how far it drops on the struts, then do it with just the struts. There's a huge difference. /schpeel
