aftermarket wheel/tire size

aftermarket wheel/tire size
Hey im currently debating buying new rims/tires for my 06 phantom blue. Anyone know how wide i can go as far as a 17 inch rim? i just think the 18's are too rough for the size of the car (respectively). I'm hoping 9 inch in the front and maybe 9.5 or 10 in the rear (wide). any precautions for mounting this size or suggestions on the tire size? thanks for any and all help. Oh ya, is there any way i can remove the ask.com links on certain words?

wow 10 inches on the 8 with 17 inch rims....?? lol....I think that if you do go 17's try and keep them down to 225's .....however lower the car as well because its gonna look stupid as heck without some form of aftermarket suspension to cover up that extra wheel well

...you can go wider on a 17" wheel as you could on 18", you just gotta get the right offset and correct tire width. for 9" wide wheels, you mighrt wanna look into +30 or r+25. same thing for the rear jut use wider tires. but before you do that, you might wanna confirm if it will clear your brakes and you might need to roll your fenders if your car is lowered. do you have the sport suspension? i have stiffer spring rates on my coupe but I still think it's comfy enough for city driving.

Thanks! I never even thought about clearing the brakes. My suspension is stock but i plan on getting a sway bar kit (not sure what company to go with, or even where to start looking). Stiffer springs may be a plus, but i want to stick with the same ride height because theres a monster gutter dip into my driveway on one side (horse shoe). I'll have to head over to discount tire for info, they always know what to do (from my experience). Now...what size... I'd imagine 245/255 for the wide...so maybe 245/55/r17? i dont remember the per-inch conversion...any help?

oh so 265 will fit, no rubbing up front? bc along with not wanting understeer, i want to be able to rotate them given i have a tendency to spin the tires from time to time. so a 265/50r17 will basically be the same height, with a 17 inch rim?

with a 9" rim and +40 offset.. i have room to spare. You should be able to go slightly larger.

I have 18x9.5 (+40) on all four...and am running 285's...no rubbing at all...even with the full MS suspension setup. It is all in the offsets.
I also have 19x8.5 (front) and 19x9.5 (rear)..with 245 front/275 rear. Again offsets are important.
Brake clearance shouldn't be an issue with 17's, but it definately would be an issue with 16's...this is why the auto (that came w/16's) have smaller front breaks than the GT version.

Correct me if im wrong, staggered setup is a difference in width of a vehicles tire size from front to rear. So im guessing 10 wide up front would rub, or require adjustments somewhere else. That is 2.0 inches wider than stock.

yup....10 up front probably wouldn't fit without the proper offsets...even with the Racing Harts. I was surprised at how well my 18x9.5's fit front and back...not even close to having any clearance or rubbing issues.
