I've driven in downpours with the RE040's and they cut right through. No problems.

I drove the car through some very heavy rains over the last couple of days. Traction was great and the car felt stable. Wipers were excellent and the defrosters were very efficient.

The day I took delivery it was one of the worst down pours this year. It rained about 8 inches in 24 hours. I had to drive 150 miles since I bought my 8 in another city.

The 8 did very good. Never hydro-planed once. I'd say the tires are great in the rain.

IMHO they also stop well in the wet! A F150 decided she needed to be in my lane from a standstill while I was passing at 40. I barely avoided her rear left quater panel. I only avoided her by the grace of the RE40s, good balance(the car's not mine), and superb ABS which had a awesome pulse rate.

Keep an eye on the tread wear. With a 140 treadwear rating the wet-weather performance of these tires may not last as long as one might hope.

I also picked mine up from the dealer on a night of pouring rain. It drove like it was on rails with no hydroplanning. I have driven it many more times in the rain and it has the same performance. I too, share the concern of continued performance with increased wear on the tires. I have over 4000 on mine and they are still doing well. I think we will just have to keep an eye in it.
