PS- I do run spacers in the winter. Rx-8 sucks in the snow with or without spacers (fun as hell but no matter how you put it the car is SQUIRLY).

The only problem I ran into is major rubbing due to the different shape of the winter tire. Unfortunately rubbed a lot of paint off my fender

 

not to mention that now instead of flinging salt and sand into the wheel well you are now flinging it at your body panels ...

 

Oh, and with regard to the use of spacers on a track car. I had seen the pic before but could not remember where. They are on the Mazdatrix Race RX-8

 

yup, and take note that they are not your 'big name' spacer brand either.

I am running 25mm spacers with Racing Beat springs (relatively small drop), and 18x8 OEM size wheels and tires, and it looks GREAT.

HOWEVER, I am lazy and this is my daily driver and I have 17" wheels with relatively high-profile SNOW tires for the winter, and there is a ton of rubbing when turning the wheel tight. Driving straight, it's fine. But at this point, from lots of slow-speed turning and rubbing, I've rubbed a hole straight through the fender liners on each side. I know if I had removed the spacers before putting the winter wheels on, this wouldnt have happened. I'm just too lazy to change it when its freezing cold out haha

Looks great though, did a little fender roll and no wheel gap whatsoever :-)

 

I tracked my car last weekend with 25mm Ichiba spacers.
I'm still alive, spacers still in great shape.

What lug nuts y'all use with spacers and stock wheels?

Google has plenty of option. Unfortunately for you, if you put extended lugs with (in this case 25mm) spacers you will probably stick through the spacer and will hit the wheel, not allowing it to sit on the new spacer's lugs. With stock logs, as shown by 9k, you may even have to trim them to fit.

 

I'm guessing (hopefully, not too lofty here) he wants extended lugs to do just what you suggest. So, he'd be looking for "through-hole" spacers at 25mm thick.

 

Do they make through-hole spacers at 25mm? And wouldn't it be much more work to change your lugs to longer one for this application?

I've made it all winter with no rub of any kind. I'm dropped on Racing Beat springs like elysium. Never got stuck either. For a bit i thought my front tires had much less grip when it was wet than when i had no spacers, but i think that had more to do with general wear on them. Bottom line is i had no trouble this winter and it seems like there won't be anymore snow and spring has come!

 

20mm spacers you need to trim the studs, at least one the front with stock wheels.
25mm in the rear required no modification.

 

Painting my stock wheels white today and brake calipers black on my stock VR. I am running 245/45/18 on 555Rs. I was wondering if I will have any issue with rubbing or fitment with the 245/45? I was thinking no since I am on stock suspension and height. Can anyone confirm before I try to source a set. Thanks.

 

He left out the part where it is flush when lowered. It won't look good at stock height. And when lowered, the 245/45 could be a problem

 

Well I'm already knee deep in the project and I've ordered spacers. So do you think it possible for me to find a suitable compromise. Since I'm running 45s wouldn't it still look good with a small drop? I really don't want to lower my ride height too much anyway.

 

You're already knee deep in the project. May as well remove the front fender liners, cut out the pinch welds, reweld them flat, and put a lift kit on.

 

Cut me some slack, I'm lazy when it comes to this stuff and I'm in Phoenix in a 100 degree garage. But while you have time to crack jokes do you think there is a realistic spring setup for my tires and desired look. It doesn't need to be "hellaflush" just cleaner and more filled. Not too big on exterior looks but it seemed like a practical, clean, easy and affordable route. Still does, but the heat is getting to me.

Wasn't 9k on 245s with tein s-techs? I can't see how much of a problem they would be unless your struts are worn then you'd sit a little tighter and probably cause some issues.
If you want to play it safe try a less aggressive spring (I think racing beat has one of the more minimal drops). Or search for a list of rx8 after market springs and choose one less agressive than the tein.

 

It's not the 245 part that's a problem. It's the 45 profile. It's taller
