in theory, u shouldn't have to worry about a slow leak. however, to be on the safe side, i would put some generic ones on- only because, why deal w/ the hassle of a flat tire if it can be easily avoided? (i did)

Thumbs up

Hey Static,

I picked up a set of these also... and YES they are VERY COOL!

Thanks for letting me know about them, 'cuz I prolly wouldn't have noticed them otherwise. They DO match the color of the stock RX-8 rims REALLY nicely. And, they were cheap, like you said: $4 per set w/ the kit. I bought 2 sets in case more caps get stolen.

Cheers!

Gerry =)

u know what i found out recently- the spares that alhambra mazda ordered for me turned out to be the wrong ones. it turns out that stock vessel cap for the rx-8 is ONLY sold with the tire sensor & stem in a package. (i called around a couple dealerships, and apparently this is a consistent story.) and, they don't know which manufacturer supplies the caps to them.

as such, the sensor, stem, and cap = $130 approximately. so, aftermarkets are pretty much the way to go if u get your stock ones stolen.... unless u want to dish out $130 a pop.

the aluminum ones that static recommends look SWEET- even better than the stock ones, in my opinion. so, if u have stock wheels, check 'em out. they come in a tire pressure kit they sell at autozone for about $4. the kit comes w/ 2 sets of tire caps, a pressure monitor, and some other screws.

sorry to hear u got yours stolen too! i know how u feel.

Have any of you ever obtained colored stem caps to match the color of your car? I don't remember seeing color-coded caps on other cars (not that I go around looking at stem caps), so I don't know how it would look. It would probably look silly, but I tend to have to see something to know.

a little piece of plastic isn't going to stop an air leak from a tire with 35+ psi in it, they are there to keep dirt and grime out of the valve stem

btw you can get 4 little black plastic caps at advance auto or autozone for about a dollar

if people constantly steal yours (which is kind of weird) then I would just get the black ones and nothing fancy
