Thumbs down $130 For Factory Tire Pressure Cap?!!

Went to the dealer this am to pick up a replacement tire pressure cap. (Noticed one of mine was missing.) And, that thing is $130 a pop (sensor, vessel, cap) + a special order as well. (Generic ones I saw at Autozone didn't match the design and looked rather crappy compared to the factory ones.) Is that crazy expensive or what...

Thanks for the offer Lundh I paid and ordered the replacement already though Guess I should've posted here b4 going to the dealer. I just never would have expected those little plastic things to cost so much. They come w/ the cap & nozzle I found out- because apparently they won't sell them separately.

When I lost one of mine I found some neat "knurled aluminium" ones at autozone for $4. But yeah, a lot of the caps don't really match the wheels.

I took all four of mine off, after I woke up on two separate mornings to two different flat tires. It seems that they cause a slow leak.

Deitrich, Just to double check... is what you need just the cap (pic 1), or the entire valve stem and cap (pic 2).
The second pic is the black RaysWheels stems.. i can't sell those. Sorry

I just wanted to make sure before you sent payment.

I only need the cap. But, the one you have in the picture doesn't look like it matches the one I'm looking for. The factory ones are black plastic, have a flat top, and a ridged pattern. Did yours come w/ steel caps?

Looks like we have different caps. Attached is a close up picture of mine. This is off of a 04 MT RX-8. I bought the car with only 3 miles on it, and it had been in the country less than week before i picked up... so i doubt anyway changed the caps. Then again... you never know.

I'll go ahead and reverse your paypal payment right now.

Oh Cr*P!!! I just remembered when i got my wheels on, the people at discount tire noticed all my caps were missing (i take them off constantly to check my tire pressure... and lost them in the course of it). I'm sorry for the confusion, but these are not OEM caps. I completely forgot about this... damn alcohol

yah, that's weird that our caps are different. mine's an '05 6MT that i picked up new also. i guess i'll go back to the dealer and look at some other 05's on their lot and see if their caps are the same as mine. i find it odd that they don't stock these like mad, since they probably get stolen a lot.

on a side-note, the aluminum ones that staticlag posted look pretty nice also... i guess it's not a bad idea to have some options, since i expect to lose more of these. maybe changing stem caps time to time is not a big deal. <lol>

thanks again for your help. and, let me know when you're going to be in town. will definitely try to make the meet. cheers!

Is it a fact that if you take the caps off the tires will slowly leak? Normally that doesn't seem to be the case on other cars but with this weird tire pressure monitoring system you never know. I noticed last night that my car only had 2, should I just some generic plastic ones from autozone?
