wouldnt start
wouldnt start
car was warmed up driven 2 miles and sat for about an hour and a half , when i went to start the car it just cranked, so i shut it off waited 30 seconds or so, and cranked it again this time i let it crank 4 or 5 times and it finally turned over and when it did it sounded weak. once it started every thing seems fine. any ideas?
This engine usually cranks a few cranks, like RRRRR, before it will start. Is that what you're referring to when you say "4 or 5 times"? If so, that is not unusual. It will never start without a few cranks/revs of the engine. As far as sounding weak I assume you are talking about the sound of it cranking as compared to the same sound in a piston engine? Ya can't really make that comparison since they are different animals and they definitely do sound different when cranking. So drive the car and don't worry about it unless it doesn't start at all. Then worry alot.

Interesting. I've never had this happen. Mine's always started right up,no hesitation what so ever. I could see this if he were starting it in very cold weather OR if in fact the battery is weak.

Warmed up is relative. The car won't really warm up at idle, unless you idle for a very long time. I consider it "warmed up" 5 minutes after the temperature needle hits the normal position. This allows for all of the coolant and oil to be at normal operating temp.
The short trip, long shutoff period is the number one cause of flooding. When the car didn't start the first time, this caused a heavy wetting of the plugs, I'm thinking. That's why the car was "weak" after it did start. Familiarize yourself with the deflood starting procedure in the manual, just in case this happens again. Continually trying to start it the "normal" way can aggravate the semi-flooded condition and drain the battery. The deflood procedure allows cranking of the engine without supplying fuel.
