hey i have an update on the problem and sorry for being vague, i havent had the car for 24 hours yet lol. anyway today i redlined from 1st to 2nd and around 7000rpm in 3rd it started smoking and the check engine light flashed and then in 1st at the same rpm it flashed and smoked and then i heard a wierd pop and the power came back and it felt like i had a little more power, so i tried to run through the gears again and i went all the way to redline in 3rd and it was fine and felt great.... still has a hard start though... any ideas and i hope that this helps you guys help me lol thanks again.

Sounds like multiple misfires. You need new coils and possibly a new Cat in the near future . If the car is equipped with one.
If I were you I would service this car. Find out from the dealership what services/warranty have been done on your VIN#. Service dept can tell you. Get it up to date.
Unless of course you don't care about the car and just want to drive it into the ground in the first month.
Which is the impression I'm getting.

82000 miles, a weopon R intake( i want to get rid of) and single exit exhaust as far as i know and no i dont want to drive it in the ground, i dont see how i would give you that impression. i have had it for a day, and i bought it knowing the problems that have come up since they first came out and im new to this engine in the rx8. i have a 2nd gen rx7 and i know how delicate yet durable these engines can be. easy i understand that you see stupid people post stuff on here and it gets annoying but trust me i searched and nothing had the same problems as me i dont have all the symptoms as what i found thats why i asked. thank you for the help

Still too vague.
1. At what rpm range is the power loss?
2. Get the maintenance history of the car. It would be helpful to know what TSB, etc has been done to the car prior to you owning it.
3. Hard start. You gotta find out you have the updated starter or not.
4. Do you have a toasted cat?

the range it happened was around 6500 to 7000 and it hasnt done it since the wierd pop, would gutting the cat make it lose too much back pressure? if not i can do that today. the dealer ship im close to is closed until tuesday is there another way to check for the recalls and services? and i read that the bhr coil kit was the best but its so damn expesive is it actually worth it or are there non oem alternatives? would changing plugs and wires till i can get the coils be a wast of time and money?

As far as alternatives to our coils ,, yes there is. But none last as long as ours do. It's a free country buy what you can afford.

Start with the basics and than get your compression test.
I had the same problem and fixed it. Guarantee its the coils so you might as well go with new coils, plugs and wires. Rough start is most likely the starter since the starter for that year is garbage. Leaving the car with bad coils will eventually ruin the CAT. I may be wrong but a bad starter will over time gum up the ignition system and put you in the boat your in now. Do you have Emission testing where you live? If so than you will have to stay with having a workable CAT.

right now i am optimistic that your car just has a weak ignition system. Dont gut it out until you know for sure its not under warranty since I am pretty sure they wont replace one thats gutted besides you dont really want to drive around sounding like a weedeater.

I think these guys nailed it with plugs and coils. When you are done there, read through the two links in my sig. One will help you with all the 04 stuff I found my first year, the other is great data. Typically I would say do the first $100 first, then coils, but these guys are most likely right to start there. The rest can help, but you need spark first for it to run, and too rich is bad.

i talked to a mazda dealer about the recalls/services done and they said everything but the engine service, the loss of compression check is how they described it but the emisissions and everything was done. the only thing is my car isnt under warranty anymore so im most likely going to get one from mazda. thanks again for the help everybody.
