IE Very odd starting problem.

HI all
Any help would be much appreciated.
Here is my problem.
I have an 05 rx8 with 70k and a new engine replaced at 55k.
It has got a remote start system which might be my problem. I have never had any problems starting the car before.

Basically
I put the key in and the dash lights up as it should be.
When I turn to start the engine the rev and fuel needles start jumping all over the place and there is a mad clicking noise. (Its not the Battery)
Also there is a noise coming from the cd player like it trying to change cd. The central locking on the doors starts to make a noise as if it trying to lock the doors.
Some time the cars alarm goes of. But it does not start.
After about a half an hour of messing with it I got it started and it drove with no problems. I turned it of and tried to start it again and then same problem started.
As I said I never had a problem starting before and the only other thing is the car is not used much now. And help would be much appreciated.
Many thanks
Derek

IE

Thanks lads. I don't think so as I only put a new one in it 6 months ago. I also drove it for 40 miles when I got it going the last time. It should of been well charged after that as it was on a motor way at high speed. As soon as I turned it of and tried to start it again the same problem happened. I have not been able to get it going since and I have even disconnect the battery and connected it again.
Unless the alternator not charging it properly. I might try a different battery in it just to be sure. But I am thinking its more to do with the remote start system/alarm.
Thanks for you comments. I will up date after the battery change.

Get a Multimeter and check the voltage on the battery with the car off and if you can get it started, check it again while it is running. That will definitely tell you if it is the charging system in general. I suspect your remote start alarm has **** the bed. Remove it and give it a go.

I'm serious about the battery connectors, because I've had almost the exact same symptoms before. If voltage drops low enough during cranking it will cause those symptoms, and if the battery cable is not making good contact with the battery then the voltage will drop that low. Cheap and easy fix.

I agree . I said battery but if he replaced it recently it's more likely the connections .

Hi Lads
So I disconnect the battery again and the battery heads looked to be fine. Nice and clean. However in inside of the connectors had a green coating over them. YOU WERE ALL RIGHT !!! After I Cleaned this the car runs fine. Thanks so much guys I would of never double checked this.

Good to hear . Think about replacing the connectors with quality solid ones if you have any more issues . The stock ones do streatch and become impossible to tighten sufficiently over time.
