Ticking / Clicking Sound When Warming Up

Hello everyone.

Well, it finally got cold here in Baltimore (2" snow came yesterday with temps now in the low teens-twenties) during the past week or so. In the morning, when I've gone out to scrape the frost off my windows, I've noticed a "ticking" noise coming from the engine bay as the car idled. It's not very loud, but it sort of sounds like the valves clicking on a worn-out piston motor, only not as loud...it's more of a "whisper-type" noise. After warm-up or driving, the sound goes away. Anyone ever hear this before? Is it cause for some concern?

As for the colder temperatures, my 8 has been a joy. My car has started right up, idled briefly at about 1200 before settling down into the 800 range. No stalling or hiccups of any sort. I must admit, I've been pressing my luck as I have not bought winter or all-season tires for her, but I have not needed to drive her in the snow or such at all this year.

Thanks for any help or info!

Arvin

Mine, does it too. Its part of the warm up cycle I believe. Don't worry about it.

I have noticed a strange vibrating noise that may be similiar and I am not sure if it is normal.. it goes away when I push in the clutch. As the vehicle warms up it becomes less noticable.

Anyone else have this?

ArvinC - I've noticed similar....knocking noise that seems to originate from the transmission...increases linearly with RPM...goes away when clutch is pushed in. My 05 MT has 6300 miles now...sound hasn't changed since new....plan to have it 'listened to' when I take my car in for service -

Normal sound. Either the throwout bearing or the main shaft in the tranny. Not to worry. Take it in if you like, but that's likely to be the response you will get.

Yeah i have the same thing..

Push clutch in the noise goes away... Also once the vehicle is warm the sounds goes away...

I just got nervous hearing that "rubbing" noise coming from tranny or clutch so I want to make sure it is normal.
