my 8 takes a little too long to turn on...like when i turn the key, for my 8 to turn on it take a couple seconds to turn on...i used to drive a 04 ep3 and didnt seem to have any problems with that but with my 8, it lags for the engine to turn on...need help...greatly appreciated if helped!! thanks

I can't give you crap because I can't find the thread off hand, but this has been discussed often and very recently. Like Discman said, it's normal for the rotary engine to take several seconds to start. If you're really that worried about it, have your dealer check the starter or the spark plugs, but they'll likely send you back home without having done anything. Welcome to the Club, don't worry about the slow starts, and enjoy your 8!

how long have you driven it without checking the oil?...i noticed that after driving mine a while it needed oil and was harder starting....added some oil and i was good to go!

Mine has never taken longer than two seconds. Usually less than one. But they do put better batteries in Canadian models.

Maybe you can try leaving the key in the "ON" position for 10 seconds or so, to let the fuel pump and all the other goodies initialized. In that 10 seconds, you put on your seat belt, fiddle with the stereo, check your hair, etc. Then crank the engine. I've done this all through the winter and no problems with starting.

While the car can be $34k, it starts at much less- and keep in mind this car was made to be lightweight at a price point. Unfortunately making things light doesn't always make them the most durable or best performing parts. But I accept the compromises since I love the nimble feel of this car.

Mine is generally a 3-4 second crank with occasional longer ones. There seems to be a "flat spot" in the ECU programming where if the car is half-cold (i.e. was shut off an hour or so ago and the weather is colder out (like in the 40s or less), the car can take up to 10 secs to crank and start - seems like it's either in a full cold-start mode when it doesn't need it or, it's in a warm start mode when it's too cold for that ... whatever it is, it cranks for quite a while before starting.

But, it always starts ...

Does the ones with the upgraded battery have a stronger feel when it is starting. I have the factory battery and the car feels like it could go dead if I turn the key for too long, but it always starts.

It's the same here in TX. When it's really cold (ok, like in the 40s) or warm (80s) start up is find. Anywhere in the middle and start up seems to take longer.

If you want help we need details.

Is it a new car? If yes, It's very common to have a low charge or near dead battery from a dealer. Get it charged up.

Was it cold outside when you try to start it? Give us details.

In answer to Brice-RX8:
I do have the 640 cca replacement battery, and I don't feel that it starts the car any quicker than the old one did. It does, though, make the starter sound like it would spin for a while whether the car started or not. There is the perception of a more powerful start, not a quicker start.

Thanks JonsToy that is what I thought the answer would be not necessarily quicker but if it were to not start the first go around the battery wouldn't feel like it was going to die the 2nd
