Strange, Possibly Electrical Issue

Hey Guys,
I have an 04, auto, 72,000 miles. Motor was replaced at 25,000 due to the infamous issues in the 04's.
The problem: the car's dash resets ("Mazda RX8" welcome screen appears on radio/climate control screen). Once in a while the car will act like it wants to stall and then catches itself. at first I thought maybe the stereo's wiring harness was loose, but when the problem started basically resetting the whole car I began to be concerned.
I have cleaned the battery terminals, and the battery and alternator both tested ok at Advance.
I'm wondering if the alternator tested ok because the symptoms were not occurring at the exact moment I was at Advanced. The car runs perfect 95% of the time, but the instances when the wants to go to sleep are pretty nerve racking.
The problem usually occurs when turning at idle speeds (i.e. turning around in a parking lot) but has occurred once at highway speeds. There really doesn't seem to be a pattern to the problem except that it consistently sucks.
The car has no warranty except the extended one on the rotary core from Mazda.
Local dealership charges $75/hour just to diagnose, so I'm wondering if anybody has ever head of anything remotely like this happening.
Thanks in advance.
