Not sure, but couldn't you get the battery replaced under warranty or get some $ back? From what I've been reading they are really weak.

not even gonna attempt that... the new one is WAY better that any battery that comes in the car from the manufacturer. Minneapolis is really hard on charging systems and batteries in general. Don't wanna get stuck anywhere...

Ask the Canadian guys/gals as well. TrueMagellen can also speak to the Lovely MPLS weather...

I bought my Optima at Sears and they had several different configurations for the battery terminals. You should check with them and also be sure to get the tray that fits to the bottom to lift it up in the battery box.

Yes the battery is weak. I've had some close calls with my car not starting. You can tell by the sound that if the battery had more juice it would fire up right away. Instead, you need to keep cranking and risk the dreaded FLOOD.

We've had some very cold days here lately -14.8f (-26c)...its supposed to go down to
-25f (-32c) within a couple of days. I guess I'll have to go start my car every two hours so it doesn't freeze up.

...why do I live here?....oh ya, you don't need a fridge to keep your beer cold! :D

Get the original replaced under warranty anyway and keep it as a backup or sell it.

Core is being recycled already - gone...

I talked with Mazda - they stated that the car had to be towed in a verified that the battery was indeed dead before issuing a wrranty replacement. Also - they didn't have an RX8 spec battery in stock (2 weeks out ). Needless to say - new battery was the best way to go.

For future references, what was the model number of the Diehard? What were the specs--CCA, etc.? Was it the same physical size as the OEM battery? The latter is apparently critical if you believe the shop manual that details the required air space around the battery. Thanks.
