Exclamation Steering Locked Up

On my way to work today my steering wheel decided it didn't want to turn anymore. I've read numerous threads this morning about power steering issues but most are over 5 years old and most of them don't specify if they lost power steering, or all steering.

The steering light came on (Steering wheel with an exclimation point (!)) and the car flat out would not turn. The wheel will only move an inch or so and the car will hardly turn at all if anything. Definitely not drivable.

I turned off and restarted the car and it seemed to reset it itself but came right back after about 2 minutes. Tried restarting again, and again it worked for a minute. I was only able to get home by stopping and restarting the car every 45 seconds or so (only about 2 miles from home).

Is there a fuse I can pull to bypass the power steering and just have old school steering until I get this fixed? Or, anything that I can do to get this car operating safely so that I can get to work tomorrow?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

You can pull the fuse that sits on the positive battery terminal. I doubt that will make it any easier to steer.

Wouldn't steer at all? WOW! That is not acceptable!

That could easily cause a wreck! I suggest you file a complaint with NHTSA.

Get an extension for the over flow radaitor box, problem solved.

Replace the short wire harness or clean connector.
