Starting problem

Hi had my rx8 232 for 2 years now . I bought it and on way home oil pipe burst and seized engine. I put a new engine in at a cost of 2600 . The garage that dun it gave me it back with engine management light on saying it wasn't coils it was oil/ fuel unburned in exhaust just to drive it and it should go off. All was good but light didn't go off and car was sluggish . I drove it for 5 months took it back as light was still on and they said it was coils . Problem is I now had a knackered cat and warm start problems . I put coils on and it ran much better , but on reading up its likely I have a low compression engine . I refuse to pay for new engine , I don't use car much but was wondering if an uprated starter would sort the warm start problem for now? Its a 2004 model . It's to good a car to scrap .

Yes, if your cranking speed is low then a new starter will mask the problem for a while. It won't fix anything though.

Sounds like the garage guys screwed up and you unwittingly followed their bad advice...
