Starter problems

My 2005 RX-8 standard transmission car has always had problems starting. It always takes a couple seconds to finally turn over and the "service engine" light is forever on. I've tried new spark plugs, new batteries, and nothing has worked. Now today I unhooked my driver side sun visor because it was broken and took it out, undoing the wiring as well. As soon as I tried to start my car again it wouldn't turn over at all. I first had to turn the electrical components on first then wait then try starting it agian before it would go. As well to that now everytime I start my car my tripometer resets everytime and I am getting no power to my stereo or my keyless entry system. I checked the fuses and the battery but nothing seems to help. Any advice would be greatly appreciated
