Stalled out, new fuel pump, still no start?
OK so I was driving to San Antonio, its a 2004 MT with 116,000miles and I'm on cruise doing 85 at ~4k rpms. it kinda feels like im burping the throttle like tiny little losses of power. All of a sudden, complete power loss. i downshift and get it to the side of the road. when i get it stopped, ive got the clutch in and i notice its still idling at ~1k rpms. i rev it and it has no problem going all the way to redline. i get back on the road, get up to speed just like normal, and drive another 75 miles at about 75mph. No problems until I get off the highway and as im going up an on-ramp, same thing. Total loss of power. I ease it over to the side of the road again. this time, no idling and it wont start back up. the first time it didnt even die, just bogged down.
I have it towed to the dealership, they say it was that the fuel pump went out, and i have some carbon buildup and the CEL is throwing misfire codes. they said that it died because of the fuel pump and lack of fuel but still recommended changing the coils and plugs anyway.
i have it towed back to my house and swapped the fuel pump 2 days ago. now it still wont start, but sometimes in cranking it makes a sound like its about to catch and the RPMs jump a little but it wont catch or start.
Ordered 4 coils today that will be in tomorrow morning and im going to pull the plugs tonight and clean them and see how bad the carbon is.
tried the deflooding procedures and searched all over the forum but still cant find anything that helps. hopefully its just that the coils finally crapped out when it died and thats whats causing it not to start but does anyone have any other suggestions? I could really use some help here.

well i know im going to do coils tomorrow when they come in. plugs are usually in stock so i can grab them tomorrow too if need be. im going to pull the plugs in about an hour and see how they look first. I just bought the car about 3 weeks ago so i have no idea when they were last changed. Any ideas what to try to get it started if the coils and plugs doesnt work?
Also when i swapped the fuel pump, there was no mention of priming it or anything like that... is there anything else that needs to be done besides pushing on the 2 lines with the quick connectors and the 2 electrical connections?

Time for boost...

if it was indeed flooded, then push starting it would be a good idea (start cheap!)
if that fails, then plugs/ coils.
After that, there are a few recommendations:
Check to see if your catalytic converter is glowing red, or remove and look inside to see if it's toast
It may also be that your starter is failing. Or a weak battery, etc etc
if that fails, then plugs/ coils.

I'm familiar with push starting a honda, is it the same with the RX8? get it going and pop the clutch in 2nd gear?
and battery is fine, charges fine. died due to all the cranking but lights never went out. starter is the same way, cranking sounds just like it did before the failure..

ok so i pulled 3/4 plugs. the trailing rear rotor i couldnt get out because i didnt have a universal thing for my ratchet. one was risted where the wire goes on, and the other 2 were really built up with carbon. so new plugs as well tomorrow. hopefully the new coils, wires and plugs is all i need to get the car running again. if not, im gonna be frustrated as all get out.
also is there any way to tell what version of the ecu flash you currently have right now?
