Squeaking when Accelerate
Squeaking when Accelerate
I have searched the forum, but have not had much luck.
I am experiencing a squeaking noise when I depress the gas pedal. It only happens when I depress it fairly quickly or when I depress the gas after changing gears (if not a flawless smooth gear change) as the car slightly bounces as it engages. The noise happens regardless if I am changing gears, just when I depress the pedal and the car slightly bounces or jumps. If it is a slow acceleration and smooth gear change I do not hear the noise when changing gears. It almost sounds like something needs to be greased. It is definitely on the outside and not inside the cabin.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what this might be?

Could possibly be the belt? A "squeaking noise" is a very broad explanation. Could be anything from the tires, the pads, the belt, the engine, etc.... Get it checked out by your mechanic if you think it's something earnest.
Thanks, it sounds like it is coming from underneath the car (frame, drivetrain) and only making a noise when there is a minor jolt to the car. Kind of like something is shifting or swinging when there is a little additional quick acceleration or force applied. I wasn't sure if others had made a similar observation.
Unfortunately I have not found the cause of this issue, it is more annoying than anything at this point. Until I get more time to troubleshoot the issue, I have decided to just turn up the music so it does not drive me crazy.
I have the same symptoms and just been told it's the mounts
Detonation sounds like a belt squeaking sound. If it only happens on load changes then it's time to either start running premium, or change coils/plugs/wires. Some squeaking on start-up is normal.
My squeaky/creaky noise has been resolved
Hello everyone, I found this forum after searching online when my Mazda2 developed a similar noise.
I'm posting this to see if it can help anyone with similar issues. The noises on my 2008 Mazda2 were squeaking when the car was cold; and the squeak only happened when accelerating, particularly after changing gears 1 to 2, and 2 to 3.
The dealership didn't describe it to me in a lot of detail but they diagnosed it as the central part of the exhaust (catalytic converter) was broken/loose leaving a gap. This explains the squeaking noise whenever the acceleration was applied.
It also explains that when the engine warms up, the noise generally disappears. The guy explained to that and once the exhaust had warmed up, the metal expands so the gap in the exhaust part closed up - so no more squeaking.
Apparently the car is supposed to be safe to drive, although whilst waiting for the part (apparently all the way from Japan), the squeaking got louder and even though the engine had warmed up, the squeaking was still audible, even at higher gear changes. I would not know what the long term effect would be if this was left unrepaired.
As the car was under warranty, it fortunately did not cost me. I would say the job probably took less than 1.5 hours.
It's funny that each time I start the engine or start pulling off, I expect the squeaking to start. So far, no squeaks since the repair was done.
Update on original post:
It's me again. Looks like I spoke too soon. Within 4 days the noise started up again, after replacing with a whole new exhaust. Took it back to the garage and they diagnosed it to be the springs that hold two bits of exhaust together were the problem. Ordered in the new springs and so far (over a week), no sign of the dreaded squeak. Fingers crossed, eh?
