The s2 series RX8 manuals state that using synthetic can cause Starting Problems.
As soon as I switched from castrol gtx 5w-20 to Mobil1 full synthetic 0w-40 oil I had hard start. I thought I needed a new batterie or upgraded starter. I took my car to autozone and pepboys. They checked out my batterie alternator and starter. All three where fine. So I took my car into the dealer ship. The starter alternator and batterie are ok. My engine is not. I have very low compression and will need a new engine. They also found a cel and thats my air pump.
My car has 64,000 miles and I switched to mobil1 full synthetic 0w-40 around 60,000 miles. Guess she was just to old and use to the 5w-20
I have a autozone rewards card that I use everytime I would buy something. From a candy to a case of oil. I logged in on autozone web site and printed all my purchases and gave them to my dealer. I'll have a new engine in about a weeks time.

Has anyone payed for gaskets when Mazda replaced their engine ? Some have told me they have others say they haven't ... it will help to spread the word out to avoid Mazda charging this...

No not everyone but then again most of the 04's are not original owner cars so it's hard to tell. Honestly in our local group there are no 04's with an original motor.

 

So far I've been lucky, but I only have ~50K miles on it.
And I'm the original owner.
