Just a "new" remanufactured engine put in last week. And I am now having more problems than I did before the engine and cat was replaced. Grr....

^ Bring it right back to the dealer over and over until they fix the problem.

Joining the club...

New engine is on order for me as well. 49,000 miles on the clock, compression test failed after I noticed a severe loss of power.

After two new transmissions, a new cat, new upper intake, new brakes, new plugs, new solenoids, 2 new batteries, new headlights, new tail lights.. I'm fairly certain Mazda is wishing I'd never bought this car.

For the guys who got new engines- did you have to gather up all of your oil change receipts? I had to do that, and my dealer faxed them to Mazda. I'm missing one of the receipts, so I'm hoping that doesn't screw me.

Ouch. How long did your cat last, and how did you know it was bad? By upper intake, are you referring to the manifold, and what happened to it? Are you using nitrous?

I had to. My brother worked at Good Year so I always got them done there. Mainly because I could go in, help him do it, and get charged half the price. The receipts are just to see if you have been taking care of the car properly. If you are missing one receipt, just tell them that you got an oil change at Valvoline or something and don't have the receipt.

Cat lasted 49k, I didn't know it was bad. I had loss of power so I brought the car in and they progressed through things that could be bad. The tech first replaced a coil and some solenoids, then he replaced the upper manifold for some kind of leak. Then it was onward to the cat, which had decided to gut itself (it was in chunks on their shop floor).

I'm not running nitrous or any mods to engine or engine management. Though I couldn't help but notice these problems started when I put the Voodoo shift **** (satin) on. Coincidence?

Joining the club. 04 m/t with just under 50,000 miles. I was having the problem where I would turn off the engine and the car couldn't be started for at least 20 minutes. Sucks when you have to oh I don't know, put gasoline in it! Anyway I asked the dealership specifically about the engine recall and they told me to pay for the $95 compression test, and if it fails Mazda will replace the engine with a new one at no cost. The engine failed the compression test horribly so they ordered a new one and I will have my car back next week. The good thing is that my starter was going bad too, and Mazda is putting in the new one with no labor costs. Thumbs up for Woodhouse Mazda Omaha. No runarounds of any kind. Btw, they never asked for any oil change receipts.

Did you get your $95 back? The test is free if you fail it.

Yes. My first engine died at 22k running Mobil1 10W-30. They didn't ask for anything on that replacement but with the last one they made me prove oil changes, etc. They are very inconsistant, they never mentioned my catless midpipe but another local dealer denied a local member because of his. For teh most part they are full of ****, on the last motor they made me replace the plugs, wires, and coils before they would replace the engine even though they were only 6 months old or so.

I just received a new engine at 73450 miles. Went to start it one cold morning and it would not turn over. Had it towed to the dealer- they did a compression check and guess what-low pressure. New engine is running great now. They also replaced the catalyptic converter under warranty.

You should still be covered under warranty, although the dealer will be less likely to want to do compression tests and other tests if they know you used synthetic. Thy may even try to twist that a little just like they do with the S1 manual.
So using Rotella 15w40 diesel would be okay to submit?

It varies from what I have read here over the years. North Park Mazda here in SA has replaced mine twice and each time it took two or three weeks. 6 WEEKS IS BS.

I read a few pages ago that someone reported their dealer telling them remanufactured engines are currently back-ordered??? Anyone else currently hearing about this?

This is a little bit scary as my engine just failed a compression test....still drivable though.

Hey Guys,

I will soon be a member of the new engine club. Again got the same response the engine is being shipped from Japan on 2 week back order. Lucky I can still drive mine as the only issue is a very hard starting problem and only at certain times.
The car was very well maintained, oil changes every 2 months, high reving at every chance and yearly collant flushes.
The deal mentioned I may want to thing about replacing the clutch and manifold. I'm still thing about that as I plan on selling it next year anyway. Maybe i will just replace the clutch.

Yeah I had them do my clutch this last engine change. not sure about the Japan thing, sounds like BS to me. The original Japan engines were new, not rebuilds. I don't believe they do rebuilds in japan but only sleepy-z could clear that up for us.
