hello everyone. Well i have being reading a lot regarding to engine failure such as lack of power and just see if mazda corp. has given anyone problem with MSP16 recall. I have '04 MT w/75K miles on it. Dropped off the car to the dealer a couple of days ago and they told me that I will be needing a new engine. According to Huntington Mazda in so cal that my rx8 is the worst one that they ever gotten for MSP16 which now leads to an engine replacement. They just couldn't find the problems with lack of power and it doesn't idles. I brought in most of my maintenace to service and need to follow up on monday or tuesday. Has anyone gotten any problems with mazda corp for lack of power and requires all maintenace and have to cough up out of pockets expenses? thanks in advance

well i figured you guys would be the ones to ask.

I got my car a few months back with 96k now it has 101,041 miles on it.. it runs like a freaking champ though.

I'm basically wondering if I do indeed belong to this club? How would I find out Mazda wont release the under warranty work that has been done to my car because I wasn't the original owner. So then I decided to tell him that was bullshit and theres no reason for him not to tell me what work has been done to MY car. then at the height of my anger knowing full well he was looking at the dame work on his screen I proceeded to call him some names and got hung up on. oppsies!

so anyway...
I cleaned my TB, coil wires, and maf sensor last night and noticed a engine number!! it has no vin just 13b which is the engine code and some other numbers following it. I was not able to locate an actual vin number on the engine.

could this 4 digit number next to the 13b have any meaning?

sorry for sounding like the worlds biggest noob!!! But id like to know if I'm in the club!

Heyy, I think I might need a new engine- so I might have to join the new club =[
--
here is my story, I bought an AT 04 with 76k about two months ago. The car was having idleing problem so I replaced the motor mounts and that seem to fix much of the problem. Today when I turned the car on I payed close attention to the RPM, when I turn my car on it goes all the way to 2,250rpm and slowly drops to about 750rpm. I noticed that the car was shaking so I look at the RPM and it increased to 1,250(by itself) dropped to 750 and then did the samething again and finally stopped. Today when I filled up the tank with 93 octane, I redlined it- and after that I experienced the "marbles in a blender sound".
so here is why I'm afraid of taking it to the dealer.
This is my first car Im 18 and have been saving money for about 2yrs to get this car. Spent almost all my money in the car only have about $600 in the bank.
Im afraid that If I take it to the dealer they'll tell me to replace some other parts that will not fix the problem.

Definitely take it in. If it's something else you don't have to fix it right then but you'll know what's wrong at least. Better to know than not.

Let us know what they tell you first before you authorize them to fix something.

Idle could be ignition coils wires and plugs. Which are much cheaper for you to replace yourself.

That surprised the hell out of me. I thought it would be in the 235-240 range.

scary thing about that is that the temp guage wont give you any indication you are at 225 -Just stays at 'normal' !!!!

New Member.

Took a trip thru the smokies. Let the wife drive the last hour of the trip. Got into Asheville and started having problems like it was being mis-shifted. Naturally, I had to blame the wife. . I got back behind the wheel and drove about 1/2 mile and completely lost all power. 2005 shinka with 72k on it. The local maz dealer has it now, waiting on a new motor. Will have to drive 600 miles back to pick it up. There is more to the story, but I will save it until all is back to normal. 'sigh'

I hope this ends my ordeal with stalls and noise, but only time will tell. Had the car in last Thursday, new engine installed on Monday, get car back today I hope.
After more than 2 years and 18,000 miles I am once again getting another new engine (#3). But this time it is because of an oil leak coming from the front housing. MNA stated that this should not be repaired by the dealer, so instead they are swapping the engine out. The bad thing is the current engine has been running perfectly since it was installed in July of 06. Only hope the replacement runs as well.

got my car today 20miles on the new engine- i can feel the diference at low rpms...
service advisor told me I shud not go over 4.5-5k rpm for 1k miles
lol well I got that fixed but now the tech told me my brakes were too mushy, like u really have to step on it to break/ they flushed the fluid and its still mushy/ master cylinder? anyways, if it is im looking at like $600 right?

in addition to not revving above 4.5K, avoid full throttle as well! basically grandma drive it.

mushy is not the same as having to really step on it to brake. if the top part of the movement is mushy, then the brakes have been poorly bled. there could be air in the master cylinder--did they bleed that? they may have also messed up the flushing job. ask them to bleed it again. bleed the clutch too. bleed master cylinder before the clutch & calipers and after.

bleeding should fix the mushy.

I think a symptom of a bad master cylinder is when you step on the brake at a stoplight, and maintain the pressure, the pedal will slowly keep sinking to the floor.

on the other hand, having to use a lot more pressure to stop (once you get past the mushiness) could indicate a problem with the brake booster. maybe a vacuum leak.

yeah they bled it and flushed it, the service advisor told me that there was practically no air in the master cylinder after they bled it, so the only other reason why the break pedal felt mushy would be a bad master cylinder..

I've had various dealers fail to bleed the brakes correctly despite telling me that they did it fine. Before you plonk down the cash on a new MC, try getting the brakes rebled elsewhere (a decent local garage, takes all of 15 minutes).

You are still in the 8yr 100k warranty from the purchase date then that is your warranty. If you were out of warranty and had to pay for a new engine the warranty would be 1yr 12k miles.

I would advise bleeding them yourself put the ignition to "on" this activates the abs system.. Bleed front he back passenger then back driver then front passenger then front driver. upgrade to ate super blue and get SS lines. that's my advice.

however that is all very off topic. enjoy!

Had my car back with engine #3 now for a couple of weeks. Only took the dealer a little less than 2 days to get it swapped out. Everything so far is great. I have put about 300mi on it since and no major probelms yet. The only thing that is bugging me is that I can smell coolant when I have the heater/ac on with outside air and can smell it just after I turn the car off. I am hoping that is just burning off coolant that spelled during the swap. I have done several checks with the flashlight from above and from below the car to look for any drips. But dont see anything. Could be a hose but so far nothing has turned up.

Obviously, it's all BS. If Mazda *knows* that the tranny will shred itself at over 100mph, they'd have to set a fuel cut for 100mph - or be sued out of business. Same as companies do for tire speed ratings.

If Mazda knows the tranny shreds itself at 6,000rpm, the redline warning would be at 6,000rpm.

No one really knows what's going on. Sure, it'd be nice if Mazda somehow became involved in these discussions. But we have to show some discretion and caution too in the assumptions we make.
I have done 130mph in my 8 without a single problem... had the cruise control set at 120mph all the way from Sacramento to Los Angeles... she handled it just fine, not a single complaint... and she's seen 100mph on a regular basis (I'm amazed I still have a drivers license)

Blinking CEL is serious. Take it back to the dealer ASAP.
