second gear grind
hey guys, I've done research about this and I've seen many different posts but i couldn't find one similar to mine.
04 MT 77k miles
My car grinds into second gear in high rpms and it has done it before but it went away. just recently I flashed my ecu into stage 1 and now its starting to happen again today and i reflashed my ecu today. should I just drive slowly until the car gets used to the reflash or what?

I just did a fluid change with their 75w-90, and WOW what a difference. Shifts are so much smoother now and it just feels better.
AMSOIL Manual Transmission & Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90
Just throwing it out there..
Also, if you haven't done it recently.. you might as well change the diff fluid while you're under there!

shaggyp: the advice given so far is very good.
I would flush the fluids (transmission and differential) with either Eneos or Redline. Based on my personal experience, those are the only fluids I would recommend (aside from OEM)
after that, check your clutch pedal for play and to make sure the welds aren't cracking.
Hopefully that clears up the issue but if it doesn't, the issue is most likely bad synchros and you're in for a rebuild if it keeps getting worse.

GL4 for the transmission, GL5 for the diff.
I've used Redline MT-90 (which is GL4) in all my Mazda transmissions, and Redline 75W90 (which is GL5) in all my Mazda differentials. Zero problems.
People that put GL5 in the transmission have syncro failure within about 10,000 miles. I think the only exception to this is Eneos that BHR sells? It appears to be a GL5.
I don't recall any mention of anyone using GL4 in the diff to know if there have been any diff failures from it. Then again, it's rare we see a diff failure discussed.
Edit: here is the BHR blog post about Eneos: http://black-halo-racing.myshopify.c...eos-75w-90-uoa

To determine if synchros are the cause as opposed to perhaps dogteeth lubrication, try double clutching. If it removes the problem altogether by doing that, it may be that the synchros are on the way out.
